In loving memory of John Askew who sadly passed away on 30th March 2026.
John is a much loved husband, dad and grandad. He was a larger than life character who made many friends through his working life at BT and the PCO and his many athletic roles, including coaching, judging and working with Seiko.
He was unfortunately diagnosed with interstitial lung disease just over three years ago and fought bravely to spend as much time with his loved ones and still carry on enjoying the things he loved. In lieu of flowers, the family are asking if you are able to kindly donate to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust, who provided care and assistance for John in the final months of his life.
We are all heartbroken and will all miss him enormously.

Today we say goodbye to you,John. You were so much more than a coach to me,you were a mentor,a friend, and someone who truly cared.
I’m incredibly grateful for everything you gave me,not just in training, but in life.Your support, your words, and your presence meant more than I can put into words.
I miss you deeply, and it hurts knowing you’re no longer here.
Thank you for everything,John.

In the mid 1970s my late husband Alan ("Big Al", as John always called him) told me he had a new apprentice motor mechanic to train up at what was then the Post Office (later BT). He said "he seems enthusiastic, and his name is 'John', but at the garage we're calling him 'JohnBoy'".
JohnBoy remained a firm family friend, there in the happy times and in the saddest of times, from then until his passing.
JohnBoy, we love you, rest peacefully.
Irene, Andrew, Richard and family.

John was a true Club Legend! A member for over 30 years, he always challenged and supported us as a club and as individuals to get things right! His legacy and what he taught all of us will always live on. Kindest thoughts are with Jane and family.
