Derek, your kindness and steady presence has left a lasting mark on me and I'm sure everyone who knew you. You spent your working years applying skill, patience and a practical mind to solving problems — qualities that never left you, even in retirement.
To your family, you were the person to rely on. Whether it was pick up from the station, fixing something around the house, lending a hand, or simply being there when needed. You were endlessly supportive of Lee and Viv. No job was too big or small, no request ever a burden. You gave your time and care without hesitation. You took pride in not only your own home and garden, but also Lee's, Toyah's, and even Brad's.
I personally remember your smile and giggle along with the ability to devour a packet of biscuits, which is a skill I can relate to. I'll be devouring a few biscuits in your honor.
I'll always remember your 70th birthday when I popped in and you were happy that I'd brought you some flowers when in-fact I hadn't, they were for Viv. Lee having to explain they weren't for you later. Well, I've got some flowers for tomorrow and they definitely are for you.
Above all Del, you will be remembered for your generosity, your warmth, and willingness to help anyone. You were a devoted husband, a loving father, and a true friend. Your presence made life easier and brighter for those around you and you will be deeply missed.
Rest in Peace.
