Wendy Veronica Massiah was born on 23 April 1958 in the parish of St John, Barbados, to George Whitfield Massiah (deceased) and Corley Silveta Massiah (née Evelyn).
She was a beloved sister to Zeeteah, Andrew, and Debbie, and a devoted mother to Leann, Leon, and Lamar. She was also a proud and loving grandmother to Lenelle, Landon, and Elise.
Wendy spent part of her early childhood in Barbados before moving to the United Kingdom with her mother and sister to join her father. She attended Heber, Friern, and Kingsdale schools. She later worked for the Department of Health, where she began in the typing pool and progressed to become a secretary.
In 1987, Wendy returned to Barbados, where she lived in Venture, St John. During her time there, she worked at R S Nichols & Sons, a haberdashery store, as Mr Boyce’s secretary.
Wendy was raised as a Seventh-day Adventist and held a quiet but strong faith throughout her life, often saying, “If it’s God’s will.”
She will be remembered as fun-loving, warm, and full of laughter — a happy soul who rarely complained and who brought joy to those around her. Wendy had a natural gift for friendship and was deeply valued by many. Those who knew her will remember her kindness, her humour, and her ability to make others feel at ease.
Wendy showed great strength and courage in her later years, choosing to face her illness privately. Her family are deeply grateful for the precious time they were able to spend with her towards the end of her life, where they were able to surround her with love and let her know how much she meant to them.
Wendy will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
