In loving memory of Patricia Taylor who sadly passed away on 19th February 2026
Pat Taylor, née Martin (Mum) was born in Nottingham, where she spent her early years as a child before moving to Battersea, London as a teenager where she became next door neighbour to a young Ken Taylor. They courted and eventually married in October 1966 and moved to Green Street Green, Kent. They had two sons Peter and Richard.
Mum (and Dad) was always proud of their two boys, and very close to her brother Sean and wife Toni, and their children Chelsea and George. And of course, her grandson (Peter’s son) Thomas. And Richard’s wife Sophie.
Mum and Dad had many happy years, along with the odd argument which Dad would cleverly almost always let mum win.
Building on family and home was their priority, with the early days being somewhat traditional and happy. There was always the annual holiday to Looe, Cornwall and in the latter years and more freedom, Mum and Dad would travel extensively (encouraged by Dad’s desire to drive and see new and sometimes familiar distant places). Mum would happily go along but all things being equal, she would probably rather be at home with a cup of tea most of the time. And a serious obsession with vacuuming the carpet daily would also be a drawcard for nesting over travel for mum.
It would be remiss, not to mention Mum’s fight with Lupus which has been with her since the mid 1970’s. Misdiagnosed at the time and with many hospital visits for tests and extended admissions to combat whatever new medical challenge was trying to take her from us so many times over the years. She always defied the odds and became a bit of a legend in some circles of the medical fraternity, with one GP that knew Mum well, proclaiming that a double decker bus could run her over and she would probably pull through it.
Mum survived Dad by 11 years and made the most of her time without him but always cherished her years when the family were altogether.
But taking on this new chapter, she made new friends joining clubs and spending time with the rest of the family.
Probably inspired by Dad’s sense of adventure to travel there were several extended trips to Australia to live with Peter and Thomas for a few months each time.
Then Mum found new friendship and love with her adopting a feisty Chihuahua named Taco who she adored. Then eventually, after she lost Taco, getting her little friend Lola, a supposed Pomeranian, which couldn’t be right as she was twice the size.
Both Richard and Chelsea would be in mum’s life consistently here in the UK and the expats amongst the family would all check in too and visit often. She was very loved by all of us.
And despite being written off by doctors due to serious medical problems in every decade since the 70’s, Mum lived to the age of 80 and enjoyed a very full and happy life.
