In loving memory of George William Williamson who sadly passed away on 23rd November 2025.
George was born in Mansfield Woodhouse in 1941. A beloved only child to George and Muriel Williamson.
Although George lived his whole life in the area, he travelled extensively, and for a short period, lived and worked in New Zealand.
George married Gillian, and they raised a family of four children together: Keeley; Donna; Clark and Scott.
George was an adored grandfather to nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He was an avid fisherman, winning many competitions and enjoyed travelling far and wide to great ‘fishing spots’, including a lengthy trip to Ireland each year.
He was a man’s man, and loved nothing more than chatting to his sons and sons-in-law about football, especially ‘his team’ - Arsenal.
George loved being outdoors. He was a keen gardener, and grew copious amounts of vegetables and fruits on his allotments. George and Gillian enjoyed walking in Derbyshire, as well as locally at Clumber Park and Rufford Abbey. Once retired, he drew great delight in taking his young grandson Luca with him to Rufford, where they played finding treasure games. Even as his health declined, George insisted on his daily walk, much to the consternation of his children.
The Black Bull was his local, where he met with his many friends and enjoyed a pint or two and a game of dominoes.
Sadly, the years and ill health took their toll on both George and Gillian. Gillian was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia, and for years George cared for his wife at home, until her condition worsened and he had to make the heartbreaking decision to relinquish the care of his beloved wife. Gillian moved into a care home, leaving George alone in the family home. His devotion to his wife continued, as he regularly visited her each week.
Finally, his own ill health and a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, saw George leave the family home and join Gillian in the same care home, where he remained until his passing.
He was quiet and unobtrusive. A proud family man and devoted husband. He was his family’s ‘rock’
