In loving memory of David Rees who sadly passed away on 3rd October 2025
David lived his life to the full and made so many friends along the way. He was a truly special man- the best Dad, Taid and friend. He had a great sense of humour and was interested in everyone. He is greatly missed

Dear Victoria,
I was so sorry to hear about your father, a fellow Welshman. He was a gentle man & I always enjoyed his company.
Unfortunately, I am not at London & so I am unable to join you on Wednesday.
In deepest sympathy, Elizabeth

We have David for a few years after he moved to Cinnabar Wharf. We enjoyed many conversations about this and that over coffee which often moved on a glass of white wine! He was a very lovely man and we’ll miss him.

My daughter and I first met David the week he moved into Cinnabar Wharf as he enthusiatially said hello to his new neighbours along with an invitation for a gin and tonic. With his zest for life, David rapidly became part of our community at Cinnabar Wharf and the FOSKD (Friends of ST Katharine’s Dock). He was always fiercely independent, very sociable, humourous and always interested in people and everything around him. He loved taking part in many of the activities offered by the FOSKD as well as enjoying summer drinks with friends on the various balconies overlooking the river. Last year at the FOSKD Xmas dinner at The Four Seasons in Trinity Square David had us all enthralled with his stories. We were all very much looking forward to seeing David at the dinner this year. David will be greatly missed by all that knew him and socialised with him in Wapping.

One of my earliest memories of ‘Uncle David’ was a weekend sail in a small dinghy in Southsea with Evelyn and Victoria when I was at Prep School (1970s). A good example of David extracting the marrow from life. Always with a glint in his eye - just like his father - David’s personal attributes included kindness in its extreme, hospitality, humour and valuing the importance of friendship and family. When Anita and I had children of our own, David was always keen to see the children growing up. Several camping trips to the New Milton home David shared with Pauline included sumptuous BBQs at the house and rides on the tractor - with the Under-10s having a go at driving around the fields. We last saw David when he was in top-form at his 90th Party at The Ivy. What a great day! You will always be in our thoughts and hearts, David, as your soul lives on. Quae Sursum Sunt Quaerite

David was such an amazing uncle. He was inspiring as I grew up with his fantastic sense of humour and varied life. He took on challenges with great enthusiasm and cared so much for those around him. Our children loved the many Baby Bash Parties he initiated and hosted several times. Our visits to the New Forest are some of their happiest childhood memories. We are proud to have known such an incredible man.

I met David two years ago in October, and when I mentioned that my sister's husband was the Head of the Navy in Iran, he said he had taken a trip to Iran. We had a very good time together, but unfortunately, it was very brief. May he rest in peace, and may his memory be cherished.

We knew David for only a very short time, being our neighbor in Cinnabar Wharf. David was enthusistic about life, loved people, had a great sense of humour and a bright smile right upto the end. He told us many stories about his life, his time in the Navy and trips to Australia, including the Melbourne olympics in 1956. RIP David, we will miss your friendship, positive attitude and stories.
