Evelyn Irene Irvine (née Plant)
8th January 1940 – 22nd October 2025
Evelyn Irene Irvine (née Plant), aged 85, of Fawley, Southampton, and formerly of Barry, Ballymahon, Co. Longford, Ireland, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in the heart of Ireland, Evelyn carried her Irish warmth, wit, and kindness with her throughout her life. As a young woman, she joined the Army, where she met her beloved husband, Jack. Together they began a life of adventure, living in Africa and Cyprus before settling in Fawley.
Evelyn worked for many years in the local oil refinery, making sure everyone was well fed and cared for, a true reflection of her generous spirit. Later, she devoted herself to caring for children at the Out of Town Centre, helping those from the cities to experience the beauty and peace of rural life.
Evelyn’s home was a haven for all , the kettle was always on, the table was always full, and no one ever left hungry or without a smile. She had the gift of making everyone feel welcome, and her Irish hospitality was known far and wide. Evelyn’s laughter, kindness, and caring heart touched the lives of so many ,especially the friends of her children, Ian and Ann, who were always treated as part of the family.
Evelyn is survived by her loving son Ian, daughter Ann, son-in-law Martin, daughter-in-law Naomi, and her adored granddaughters Aoife and Emear, who were the light of her life. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister Millie, niece Colleen, and Colleen’s husband Steve, who live in Canada. Evelyn will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her, both near and far.
A funeral service to celebrate Evelyn’s life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 25th November 2025, at All Saints Church, Marsh Lane, Fawley (SO45 1SQ), followed by a celebration of her life at the Royal British Legion, Exbury Road, Blackfield (SO45 1XD).
All are warmly welcome to join in giving thanks for a life well lived.
Flowers are welcome and may be sent to:
New Forest Funerals, Bank House, The Square, Fawley, SO45 1DD.
“May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
