In loving memory of Terence Thompson who sadly passed away on 9th September 2025.
Terry was born in Tamworth, he spent his early years living at 55 Lower Gungate, a terraced house opposite the Globe PH with his mum, dad and younger sister.
He attended Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and did an apprenticeship at Reliant before serving 9 years in the Royal Navy.
After leaving the Navy he’d still got the urge to travel and at the age of 29 he emigrated to Australia and became a £10 Pom. He spent 5 years there working for 6 months and then travelling around in his beloved Land Rover! He came home to Tamworth in 1974, couldn’t settle and took a job in Oman helping to build airport runways.
In 1976, the confirmed bachelor met me, Maggie in The Jolly Sailor and we married in 1977. We have one son Philip who was born in 1987, Terry was so proud of Phil. We enjoyed lots of holidays abroad over the years and also in England.
Terry enjoyed fell walking and we had fabulous holidays in the Lake District with family and friends. He also enjoyed gardening and nature, meeting family and friends.
Unfortunately early in 2018 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and a few months later with Prostate cancer. He managed to carry on with a fairly normal life until July 2022 after which he endured a number of long spells in hospital. He finally returned home in July 2023 vowing never to be admitted to hospital again!
He kept to his word and passed away peacefully at home with me at his side.
He was a real character, he enjoyed an adventurous early life and then a more settled later life. He was clever, had a dry sense of humour with a quick wit. We were married for 48 years and I will miss him so much.
