Betty Evelyn Wigglesworth (15 Sep 1941 - 6 Jul 2025)
Funeral Director
In loving memory of Betty Evelyn Wigglesworth who sadly passed away on 6th July 2025
Having enjoyed a long and wonderful life, we, would like to share some of her life story with you….
Betty was born in East London to parents Herbert and Elizabeth, during the dark days of World War 2. The family were true gritty Eastenders and chose not to evacuate whilst the bombs were falling on London during the ‘Blitz’. Instead, Betty would be cuddled under the kitchen table during the terrifying air raids !
During her young teenage years Betty soon became a leading member of the household, supporting her parents by caring for her brothers and sister. This very much set the scene for Betty’s life and after leaving school she joined the Royal Air Force as a ‘WRAF' where she met her first husband, Ken.
Having moved to settle in Nottingham, Betty began work at the County Hall as a local government switchboard operator, helping the community. Sadly, Ken died very suddenly, but with the love and care of her family, work colleagues, and her much loved dog ‘Sparky’, Betty found the strength to return to work and rebuild her life.
After finding the courage to engage with a dating agency, Betty met her second husband, Don and spent many happy years together living at their house in Gamston, Nottingham.
For those who were fortunate enough to meet Betty; they would always find her to be friendly, caring, sincere, and loyal. Although Betty never had children, she embraced and loved Don’s family as if they were her very own.
Don sadly passed away several years ago but with the support of his family, Betty has been able to remain in her house at Gamston, until recently moving to Field House Nursing Home at Radcliffe-on-Trent.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Field House for the wonderful care provided to Betty during the last few months of her life.
Betty will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her ……
