In loving memory of Patricia Hopkinson who sadly passed away on 30th May 2025
Patricia was born on 23 June 1947 in Donaghadee, County Down, the daughter of Francis Ernest Brice and Olive May Brice (nee Willoughby). Sister of Michael, Alan, Peter, Maureen and the late Alison. After earlier life in Plymouth, the family moved in 1961 to Arnold, Nottingham.
Patricia joined Midland Bank Ltd in 1964, but left in 1968 to work in a children's home in Bulwell, which had been her original ambition. However, she noticed that the married couple, who were the house mother and father, were keeping food intended for the children in their care for themselves and giving the children cheap and inferior food. This and other matters caused Patricia to report what she had seen going on to Notts County Council, and she then felt obliged to resign. Later the same year she re-joined Midland Bank Ltd and worked at the Arnold Branch until early 1989, by which time she had married Paul and was expecting her daughter Amy. Apart from a 2year period working at Carnarvon Primary school, Bingham as a lunchtime supervisor, she was a "stay at home Mum", concentrating on bringing up Amy. Rheumatoid arthritis, which she contracted in her twenties, steadily worsened, and her mobility declined gradually year by year. By 2012 she had difficulty climbing stairs so a ground floor bedroom and en-suite was built for her. She became housebound and would not even leave her bedroom during the last 5 years of her life as she was afraid of falling. The pain she endured in all her joints became unbearable despite stronger painkillers, but she never complained about her condition. The telephone enabled her to keep in touch with the outside world - with family and friends. She was unable to use a computer or even a smart phone, owing to the deformity and pain in her hands. She could still write letters, with some difficulty, until her final month or so.
She passed away peacefully with Paul and Amy at her side, and is now no longer in pain.

The dust has settled now you are rest and peace. You are so much missed by all who knew you. Your long term suffering is now over allowing you to meet up with Dad, Mum and Alison. Our regular chats are no more via telephone, but, l am sure we can continue to communicate with each other in various ways .Love and miss you big Sister Trish. xx

  • Fond memories of Aunty Pat. Whenever I see a cuckoo clock it reminds me of staying over as a kid. Thoughts with Uncle Paul and Amy. Xxx Claire

The best No1 cashier and a wonderful colleague. She was so kind to me when my Dad died suddenly while being taught the No1 position and my Mum also suffered from rheumatoid arthritis.
