In loving memory of David Connell Simpson who sadly passed away on 27th May 2025

Our Dad was the most amazing man, despite his unassuming demeanour. Born in Port Glasgow on 21st November 1932 to Daniel & Mary Simpson, Dad was the eldest of five. From a young age, ships and the sea were in his blood. From building wooden sailboats as a young boy, to National Service in the Royal Navy, the stage was set for a long career in the Marine industry.

in 1962 he met a young lady by the name of Maureen Wallace, and the stars aligned to bring them together. On 17th March 1965 their union was made official as they were married by Mum's childhood Minister Rev James Runciman. Mum spent the next almost three years travelling the world with Dad on various different ships. In mid 1968 she left Dad onboard ship and flew home from South Africa to await the arrival of their first child, who arrived in Late October 1968 and was named Graeme John. Dad came ashore for the last time in 1969 and began family life with Mum and Graeme. A little under three years later, a new addition to the Simpson Household arrived, in the form of Hilary Connell. After coming Ashore permanently, Dad started new career as an Engineer in the Service Department for a Marine Engineering company and flew off around the world at a moment's notice to repair ships in trouble with their propellers. He progressed through the firm to a Management position & in later years went on to become Head of Spare & Service, sending others off around the globe a he had done before them.

Despite his severe health condition of Asbestosis combined with his longstanding heart condition, not to mention his complete heartbreak on losing Mum; at halfway to his 93rd birthday Dad was still living on his own, taking care of the house (with help from me with cooking, shopping, washing etc), driving, taking daily walks in his favourite spots of Penshurst Place & Calverley Park and spending time with Graeme and Melissa and his beloved granddaughters Amelia & Grace.

He was a man who loved his wife and his family and would do anything for them. He will be very much missed by many, but especially by his family.

So sad to hear that David is no longer with us. A small donation in his memory to a worthy charity seems appropriate. Rest in peace David
