In loving memory of Joaquim Francisco Fernandes who sadly passed away on 1st March 2025.
Joaquim Francisco Fernandes, or, ‘Joe’ as many of his friends and family knew him, was born in Nairobi, Kenya. Joe was the youngest child, having an elder brother and sister, Tony and Bernadette. Joe grew up in Nairobi and moved to Goa, India with his parents in 1965, at the age of 12. It was in Goa that learned his trade as a mechanic, and also where he met his wife, Ana Maria.
Joe and Ana Maria were married in 1982 and moved to the UK in 1984. Joe and Ana Maria were happily married for over 42 years and had 3 children together; Savio, Jason and Liberata. Joe worked for over 20 years with Boots and later with ASDA and so was very well-known in his neighbourhood of Bermondsey.
In his final years, Joe was fortunate to have 5 loving grandchildren; Eleanor, Jessica, Adeline, Benjamin and Naomi. At age 71, and following a long battle with COPD, Joe sadly passed away on 1st March 2025 at St Thomas' Hospital, London.
Joe was a kind and warm-hearted man who was dearly loved and now deeply missed by his family, friends, church and local community- may he Rest in Peace.

Such a lovely man, kind, caring husband to Ana Maria, loving father to Jason, Libby and Savio and just such a great individual, with a lovely sense of humour and wholesome personality. Joe, you will be missed greatly.
