My speech from the service for those that missed it/couldn’t hear it:

Generally, a baby’s first word is dad and as a child, there is an expectation that a dad will love and protect us, whilst preparing and teaching us to navigate the world successfully as an adult, with care and attention to our individual needs.
Our dad did this in abundance, not just for the three of us, also for some of our closest friends, who also looked up to his example of what a father figure should be, in the absence of their own dads.
Although gone from the physical world, our dad will live on in our memories, with the three of us individually displaying some of his unique qualities:
Pete, with his strength, determination and fortitude, Dave with his quick wit and ability to sell snow to Eskimos, along with unparalleled negotiating and peacekeeping skills, with myself taking his incomparable engineering mind, and all three of us taking the ability to love and care for everyone around us.
The kind messages we’ve received as a family demonstrate how many lives this great man touched and as a family we thank you all for them as we continue to mourn this loss.
However hard this is though, our dad wouldn’t want anyone to grieve over him, instead he’d want us all to celebrate his life and legacy, which we’ll strive to do and we look forward to sharing a toast to his life with you all after we lay this great man to rest.
We love you dad, thank you for everything you’ve done for us, I wish you fair winds and following seas until we meet again.

  • What a beautiful tribute to your lovely dad. He was so very proud of you all. I’ve watched you grow from little boys into the wonderful young men you all are. Your mum is lucky to have the support that you all give her.
