COASA (Acting Chair) England and Wales wrote

On behalf of the Coroner's Officers and Staff Association we would like to send our sincere and heartfelt condolences to Steve, Jo, Sophie, her Mum and the rest of Debbie's family.

Debbie joined the COASA in 1998. During the ensuing two decades she made a huge contribution to the work of the association. She worked tirelessly for the COASA council and held the position of Chair for a number of years until 2017. She had an indomitable drive, commitment and tireless passion to improve the knowledge and practice for those working within the Coroner service; so that they in turn could provide the best possible service for bereaved people and for those who came in contact with the service.

Debbie contributed to the development and delivery of over 50 COASA study days and has represented COASA at Government level. She developed and delivered 3 academic courses for those working within the service and a a BSc in Death Investigation at Teesside University. Last year, she was delighted to be able to contribute to the development of the new academic courses for Coroners Officers at Bolton University

Debbie had so many achievements in her professional life, but she was not just a fantastic colleague, she was smart, kind, funny and also a very good friend.

She will be greatly missed.

Patricia Harding wrote

All who work within the coroner service know the impact on those suffering bereavement who often struggle to cope with the processes that follow following the death of a loved one.
Across all of her academic and professional life Debbie dedicated herself to improving what could be done, not only in Kent, but also across the whole of England and Wales. All aspects of the service knew and valued both her formidable professional abilities and her compassion.
She was to many more of a wise friend than a simple colleague or ‘boss’. Her time with us in Kent was too short but nonetheless filled with achievements. In truth, too many to mention, but not least amongst them the realisation last year of a dedicated facility for the service at Oakwood House. Our loss is great, we shall miss her.
