Tribute to Sally by brother John
I have always found it difficult to express my feelings in words, finding music much better in this regard. Rather than words, then I offer instead a short piece of music which will always remind me of my beloved sister Sally. The piece is “The Lark Ascending”, by Vaughan Williams. See https://youtu.be/nEg5fMNNPZE for a very good version.
The opening makes me think of Sally the little girl, full of wonder and joy at the new world she found herself in. The gentleness of her nature is clearly heard here, but there is also a sadness that was a part of life for her.
The music develops and reminds me of Sally growing and maturing, finding love and raising a family, and the joy that this gave her. She loved her family, and her dogs, too – her natural instinct was always love. Her joy is very prominent in this part of the music.
As the music winds to a close, the sadness of the music reminds me of the sadness in her eyes towards her final days. The final ascent of the lark upwards is Sally on her final flight direct to heaven.
The snowdrops are in bloom in our garden, and their bowed heads reflect the grief and heartbreak I feel at the loss of my sister. I know that her family are feeling the same at the loss of a wife, mother and grandmother.

They say there is a reason
They say time will heal;
Neither time or reason
Will change the way I feel.
Gone are the days
We used to share.
But in my heart
You are always there.
The gates of memories will never close;
I miss you more than
Anyone knows ..
Love and miss you every day,
Till we meet again,
Always and forever,
Brother Bob.
