Just come across this awful news, always harboured a wish that we might meet up again, sadly this won't happen. Like Rachel and Tim I worked with Ian back in the 80's. I'll never forget some of the legendary nights out, great fun, a great guy. RIP my friend.

  • Thank you Nick. I am so sorry that you didn’t get to meet up. I suppose it is a reminder to all of us that life is short. I am so grateful that Ian had such good friends and was held in high esteem. It means so much to the family to know he was well loved. I wish you well and thank you for taking the time to post. I am Elaine, Ian’s cousin. He lived with us as a child when his mum was ill.

  • Hi Elaine Thanks for the message, i don't think we ever met but i believe i may have met your son Jamie at your mum and dad's house many years ago. Although i hadn't spoken to Ian for many years i always believed we would bump into each other again one day when i was down in London - i guess now i should stop looking out for him...

Thank you for being a part of my life, Robbs. You brought kindness, laughter, generosity and your own unique personality to everyone who was fortunate enough to know you. For someone who was dealt tragic circumstances at such a young age, you were still able to see beauty in the world and express yourself through music, writing, carpentry and simply being genuine. I have wonderful memories of my time with you, as do all your friends and family.

I was devastated and shocked to hear of my cousin Ian's death at such a young age and am very grateful for his cousin making the effort to contact us with the sad news. I never had the opportunity to meet Ian very often due to circumstances but always remember him as a friendly and smiley person when I did. He had a lot to deal with as a child and always admired his resilience and toughness to make a life for himself through adversity. He appears to have done that and also to have had many dear and wonderful friends and close family on his Mum's side he could share his life with. Sadly, I never got to cultivate a relationship with him as I rarely saw him whilst growing up. However, he was always on our minds and was never forgotten at any time. He is the son of my late Father's brother George and they were very close. Dad had spoken to Ian a few times in recent years and therefore did keep in touch. The rest of the Robbins family have been informed of Ian's death and having lost many dear members of our family in recent years, this has only added further to our sadness. Sleep well Ian and I hope you are reunited with your Mum and Dad again whom you both lost at such a tragically young age. You will always be in our hearts. Mark

Thanks to Elaine and Martyn for organising and delivering a beautiful send off for Robbs. Elaine's family tribute told his friends of Robbs earlier life which we didn't know about. Lapps gave us an insight into the early boarding school years with humour and sincerity. Martyn's tribute was a biography of 42 years and brave Holly's tribute was just a joy and a beautiful tribute about what Robbs meant to her and her life..incredible..
Thanks Robbs for touching us all and sharing your life with us..we were privileged.

Now the dress is hung, the ticket pawned
The factor max that proved the fact
Is melted down
And woven on the edging of my pillow
Now my brother lays upon the rocks
He could be dead, he could be not
He could be you
He's chameleon, comedian, corinthian and caricature
Shooting-up pie-in-the-sky
The bewlay brothers
In the feeble and the bad
Bewlay brothers
In the blessed and cold
In the crutch-hungry dark
Was where we flayed our mark
Oh, and we were gone
Kings of oblivion
We were so turned on
In the mind-warp pavilion

Lay me place and bake me pie
I'm starving for me gravy
Leave my shoes, and door unlocked
I might just slip away, hey

Just for the day, hey!
Hey, please come away, hey!
Just for the day, hey!
Please come away, hey!
Please come away, hey!
Just for the day
Please come away
Please come away
Please come away
Please come away
Away
(away)
Away
Hey

To my wonderful cousin Ian,

Much loved but left too early
You lived well and
will be greatly missed x

Not how did he die, but how did he live.
Not what did he gain, but what did he give
These are the units to measure the worth
Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.

  • I think that's the infamous powder-blue bass Robbs made in woodwork when we were at school. Absolute beast. No-one could play it but him. I miss him.
