Dear Anna, Jeff, Alex, Gemma, Seán, Saoirse and Ciarán,

Our condolences to you on the loss of an incredible man, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. This is a deep loss for all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

My early memories of Uncle Joe are more about how he made me feel than anything else. Back then, my experience of the "grandparent generation" seemed to be that they were a little less involved with us kids than today's more "hands-on" approach. Of course, Uncle Joe was the exception. From the moment I would walk in to his home, he would make me feel like I was the most interesting 5 year old in the world. He'd excitedly sit with me at the organ and teach me a song or two. He'd take me out in the garden to encourage me to do a headstand, something I never managed to figure out, yet he executed it effortlessly!

Seeing him up on stage with the rest of A.M. Crusade at various Goan dances was something I looked forward to, not just because I liked to dance, but because I felt inspired. The talent on that stage was outstanding and even though I was young, I saw enough behind the scenes work to realize how much effort Uncle Joe and the band put in to make those dances so memorable for everyone. As dad mentioned, Uncle Joe would always make a special effort to play our favourites too! That A.M. Crusade album immediately became one of my son's favourites last summer and has clearly inspired yet another generation.

We all feel so blessed to have known such a kind, patient and full of life man. Rest in Paradise Uncle Joe.

- Mia, Nirav, Xian and Amani

Our depeest sympathies and condolences from Lupita and myself to you Anna and Jeff on the loss of your dear father. He was the inspiration behind the Lancet and other Goan folk dances. I have fond memories of the shows we did together and admired his enthusiasm to preserve Goan culture and heritage in the UK.

Our sincere and deepest sympathy to Jeff, Anma, Gemma and Alex on the sad loss of dear Jovito.

We have known Jovito very well for a long time and our friendship goes back many years to the early 70’s. During that time, he always played the music for all our Catholic Children’s Charity Socials and was so obliging. In later years under the guidance of the late Mr L D’Souza he wrote the music for the Lancers and together they taught us the folk dance. Jovito was a talented and accomplished musician. He was a source of inspiration and encouragement to young musicians and especially to my son which we will never forget.

We knew Jovito as a warm hearted, kind, polite, always happy and sincere person. He was truly extra ordinary, one of a kind and a thorough gentleman and his presence brought so much of happiness. It was always a pleasure to be with him. He was involved in so many cultural activities and will certainly be missed. He had so many friends but he always had time for us and we are honoured and privileged to have known him.

We will remember all of you at this time of great sadness and sorrow in your lives and we pray the Lord will sustain you with His love, comfort you and help you to cope with your grief.
We will miss Jovito and will always think of him and remember him in our prayers.

May his soul rest in peace.

Dear Anna, Jeff, Gemma, Sean and Alex
Please accept our condolences on the passing of Uncle Joe, a truly remarkable man. When I think back to each time I saw him, I felt wrapped up in kindness, love, and a feeling that I mattered. He had a way of intently listening and always made you feel better for having seen him. Seeing him with my daughter five years ago brought all that back. How did he do that? I remember when the G.O.A. had a talent show, and he encouraged me to enter and play the flute. (I was rubbish). Somehow, I won a trophy (thanks, Uncle Joe!), and even though I knew I wasn't good, it made me feel ten feet tall! I was always fascinated by his use of his hands as a trumpet and his tremendous energy. His love of music was contagious.
I see that same patient and loving nature in Jeff, Anna, Gemma and Alex, and I know you each carry a piece of him.
With love from
Michele, Byron, Aiden and Zoe

I am so sorry for your loss. Jovito was special to Angela and me; we all shared many memories over the years. I will always remember how Jovito would make sure the band played Santana for us whenever Angela and I took to the dance floor. I am sure Angela and Jovito are together today. I will miss him very much.
