In loving memory of Dorothy Winifred (Dot) Sharpe who sadly passed away on 1st December 2023.
Mum was born on 11 December 1936. Easy for us all to remember, she would say, because it was the day King Edward VIII abdicated. She lived in Lime Street, Mansfield with her parents Joseph and Lillian and her sisters Mavis, Marjorie, Joan and Susan and her brother Bernard. He parents died when Mum was in her late teens and she was given away at her wedding to Dad (Brian) by her brother Bernard. They first moved to Clipstone, where Dad worked at the colliery, and then to Edwinstowe in 1964, where Dad worked at Thoresby, and where she remained, apart from a few months, until her death.
Hard work and dedication to her family were just a few of her qualities as she raised her 6 children in Edwinstowe. She always worked, whenever she could, and would turn her hand to anything but many would remember her from her time working at the launderette and Freeman's Butchers in High Street and her time as a postie before the arrival of child number 6 curtailed this occupation. She was a good neighbour and friend to many in her life and was surrounded by good neighbours who rallied to her aid in the latter stages of her life. There are many superlatives one could choose to describe her and we shall voice them when we say our final farewell to her in Edwinstowe on 21 December.
