Our journey started when I met you 30 years or so back
I knew of you only as the next door neighbour of a friend
You seemed a jolly man who always had the time to say “Hi-ya”
You would stop and ask how I was and we would have a little chat
I would later learn that this was simply in your nature

Time and circumstances changed things, not only our friendship but our relationship together
I fell in Love with your own flesh and blood, your precious daughter Heather
You thankfully accepted me into your family and your daughter and I became man and wife

You had become my Father in Law, but really much more than that
I grew to love you dearly, I still do, and I always will
Over the years my respect and admiration for you grew immensely, I quickly learned you where a good man
Not only where you a devoted Husband to Carol, but as a father you cherised the ground your children Kevin and Heather walked on, and all that you done for them has helped mould them into the wonderful adults they are today.
The love you held for my son, your grandson Matthew was unrivaled.

I am so very pleased to have known you and so proud to have been able to call you my dad
And as I sit and write this I can only shed tears
I am so heartbroken that we couldn’t all enjoy many more happy years together as a loving family
There is now a big hole in my heart as I grieve at your passing
I am now left with nothing more than memories to reflect on of our time together

As a man, I promise you I will try and remain strong and I will continue to do what ever I can, to help and support the family.
I know that you will always be by our sides, mine included, to help and guide us through things just like you always did before you where taken from us

Until we raise a glass together next time

Your ever Loving Son In Law

David

Richard was one of the first people I met when we got our spaniel about 10 months ago. I would frequently see him and Cassie out in the fields come rain or shine. He was the first to show me a particular route and now I shall think of him whenever Fin and I walk that way. What a lovely man. My thoughts are with Carol and family. x

I have only slipped away into the next room

I am I and you are you

Whatever we were to each other

That we are still

Call me by my old familiar name

Speak to me in the easy way you always used

Put no difference into your tone

Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow

Laugh as we always laughed

At the little jokes we always enjoyed together

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me

Let my name be ever the household word that it always was

Let it be spoken without effort

Without the ghost of a shadow in it

Life means all that it ever meant

It is the same as it ever was

There is absolute unbroken continuity

What is death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind

Because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you for an interval

Somewhere very near

Just around the corner

All is well.

Nothing is past; nothing is lost

One brief moment and all will be as it was before

How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!
