It is with great sadness that the family of Mr Donald Iain Nunn announces his passing, after a short illness, on 11th October 2023 at the age of 76.
Don will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his children Debbie, James (and Tanya) and Jo (and Lynn) , his grandchildren Amy and Lucas and his brother Jim.
After a busy and varied working life with jobs ranging from banking and computing to farming and running a B&B, Don enjoyed a peaceful retirement. During his retirement years, Don spent time with family and friends and enjoyed spending time in his garden and exploring the world virtually by driving trucks on his computer.
Don's funeral will be held at the Surrey and Sussex Crematorium, Balcombe Road, Pound Hill, Crawley, Sussex, RH10 3NQ on Friday 17th November at 12.30pm. Following the service we invite you to join us for a light buffet at Heathy Farm Pub which is located opposite the crematorium.
Don had a positive outlook to life and wanted family and friends to be comfortable when meeting up. For this reason dress code will be smart casual, no ties (unless you would like to) for the gentlemen and you are invited to wear a splash of colour.
Close family flowers only however if you would like to make a donation to Cancer Research then please use the link provided.
Don will be greatly missed by all who knew him and we hope to see you at the funeral during which we can share more memories and celebrate his life.

On behalf of Debbie, James and Jo and myself, I would like to thank all those family and friends who came to pay their respects at Don's funeral yesterday. We should also thank those who were unable to attend but were with us in their thoughts on the day.
To my brother Don, rest in peace.
With love
Jim

Our family moved to Crawley “New Town” in 1956. I soon got to know Don’s younger brother Jim at Junior school. They lived only a few yards away from us in Pound Hill.

Being older, Don was one of the first of our group to pass his test, and get a car.
In the 60’s you could get some interesting machinery for as little as £10 to £20. Don had a preference for Austin A40 Devons (affectionately referred to as “Jumbos”). They were fine as long as you carried a gallon of old oil with you, for when the orange oil light regularly came on (MOT’s were slightly less stringent in those days!). Later, when my own vehicles broke down, I’d have to hitchhike back to Crawley (no other means of contact in those days as most families didn’t have landline phones), Don was always on hand to come out and tow me home or put my scooter in the back of his Devon van for recovery.

There were also some memorable road trips with 4 of us driving down to southern Spain and France in September 1970 (in Don’s Ford Console), on a camping holiday (when even the locals were complaining about the heat), and a 3 week 4,600 mile drive taking in the sights of the western part of the USA in 1998.

Nearer to home, we enjoyed several parties and family barbecue’s at Tandridge Lane. I have particular memories of when Don arranged a “Barn BBQ” which was attended by other East Grinstead Motor Club members. Jim had created an additional cooking unit from an empty 45 gallon drum. The burgers cooked nicely, but had a faint diesel flavour.

We had regular contact with our twice yearly card nights (with Jim and Ken), usually starting off with a couple of beers at the Brickmakers. There were also our weekly attempts at snooker (as Clive mentioned), and latterly a small group of us have been meeting fortnightly for a Crawley Wetherspoon’s “Curry Club” lunch.

So I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Don continuously for over 65 years, with lots of memories. A good friend who never complained nor had a bad word to say about anyone.

Alan

Don was a very special person, and after our divorce we remained friends. We always met up at family gatherings, where he and Jan (my husband) would sit drinking a glass of wine and put the world to rights. He was comfortable to be with.
He was a dad, and spoke of Debbie James and Jo with such pride. And he loved the grandchildren, Amy and Lucas so much too. He loved all the family being together at these times.
He will leave a Don shape hole in his family, but we will keep him with us photos, telling stories about him and the love we All shared for him.

Always enjoyed meeting Don and chatting about life, he always found the time to ask about my son and how he was getting on. I know he was a very proud father and grandfather. Lovely man, sorely missed by friends and family.

Don was a special cousin to me as I was born on his 6th Birthday. Back in the early 90s when I was working at Gatwick I lodged with Don during the week, I would bring red wine with the rule that it must cost less than £3 a bottle! Wednesdays were snooker nights for Don and Alan, I was definitely the poorest snooker player of the trio and haven't improved. I know how sorely Don will be missed by family and friends
