Lynda Forster (16 Feb 1951 - 30 Sep 2023)

In loving memory of Lynda Forster who sadly passed away on 30th September 2023

Lynda grew up in Fitzwilliam with her parents, Nora and Bob, moving to Ackworth in her early teens. She attended St Wilfred’s Catholic School.

At the age of 17 she entered the Carmelite Monastery at Thicket Priory in York as a novice leaving 2 years later before taking orders.

She headed off to Montreal, Canada, where she spent a couple of years as an au pair and acting, including playing Mary Magdalene in the Passion story

Following that she found herself traveling to Australia and spent a few years living in Brisbane.

On returning to England she found a job as a trainee probation officer in Castleford and met her future husband, Graham. Enjoying her job she went to Leeds University gaining qualifications that enabled her to return to Castleford and become a qualified Probation Officer.

Lynda and Graham moved to Somerset where she continued her work in Taunton. In 1982 they moved to Burley in Woodhead. Here Lynda had her 2 children, Joanne and Louise, and had a break from work before returning to it in Keighley when the girls were older.

When Lynda’s marriage ended in 1994 she moved to Ilkley. In 2000 she met her soul mate and kindred spirit Steve.

In 2002 Lynda left the Probation service and set up Dillon’s of Ilkley, an interior design shop, along with Alison Dillon and Annette Clayton. When this venture ended and Lynda retired, she and Steve moved to Silsden, to a house bordering the canal.

When Lynda wasn’t travelling the world in her retirement she could be found enjoying the wildlife and people watching along the canal side.
