In loving memory of Robert Jardine who sadly passed away on 21st September 2023. Robert was a loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather and step grandfather.
He was born and spent his early years in Scotland, something he was incredibly proud of. He never missed an opportunity to regale all with his heritage, and literally wore his 'tartan on his sleeve'. Robert spent his working life in Optics, starting in 1954 then continuing through National Service and culminating in owning and successfully running a prominent local practice (Pendlebury's) amongst others. Optics was a real passion for Robert, following in both his Father's and brothers footsteps. He lectured in the early 70's, examined, served as President of the Association of Dispensing Opticians and always took an enormous interest in developing the industry and the young talent as its future. He was not shy of an opinion, often controversial but always objective and passionate.
Sport played a huge role in his life, from his very early days playing semi-professional football for Queens Park to his latter years watching Charlton Athletic with his friends.
In his words he had, 'a great life' far too much to cover here. He was thoughtful and humorous right to the end. He didn't once complain, he told us he was ready, and was peaceful and dignified.
All are welcome at Vinters Crematorium (ME14 5LG) at 12:30pm on Friday 20th October, and then please join us afterwards at Bearsted Golf Club (ME14 4PQ).
We request family-only flowers, for which please contact Bek and Jen at www.bloominggreenflowers.co.uk (01622 298676). Otherwise donations please to Heart of Kent Hospice.

Bob was always tremendous company to be with no more so than at our annual Christmas Rugby Lunch when after much imbibing it was my pleasure to pour him into his train home with much hilarity. His dry sense of humour will be sadly missed.

I knew you first when we were with D & A, and later
you examined some of my dispensing students. You were
knowledgeable and humorous and could tell a good tale.
You will be missed.

Robert,
We met on the rugby pitch in 1963 at East Molesey, and while we lost contact a few years later following our marriages, we met again at a function in Leeds Castle some twenty years later. As your wife and mine, both named Sue, had been at school in Maidstone at the same time, we became friends and we became customers of yours at Pendlebury. Socially we all met for lunch from time to time, and you and I also enjoyed attending reunions of our rugby club every December for many of the last 30 years.

You have been a good mate and I will remember many great sessions on and off the rugby field.
