My (almost twin) dear old friend, we never forget the episode of Phantom of the Opera and the white paint. You were unbelievably forgiving in spite of your Georgio Armani suit. Devastated we can’t celebrate our 70th next year. Much love❤️

I first met Stuart in East Belfast when we were both at primary school. He was a great friend and we shared many happy times together....mostly in local pubs and also watching 'the Mighty Glens' at the Oval. The Eglantine and Botanic Inns were regular haunts. Happy times. I also recall many trips to the 'Port' and Kellys. I left Belfast at the beginning of the 70s but we always kept in touch and I visited him in Nottingham at various times. I last saw Stuart at his brother,
Neil's funeral, in 2019. I will miss him terribly. I couldn't have wished for a better friend. I've added a photo of Stuart with Colin. We were a great trio. RIP Stuart

Stuart,

We became family when I was a teenager. Neil my step father, and Gavin, my best friend. You were the traveller , fot your work, who I didn't know to well at first but that soon changed.

You loved my son Jamie, from the day he was born. Trip's to the park , banana sandwiches with Nan and great advice.
Great advice.....After Neil passed away you gave me incredible belief and confidence to carry his legacy foward. There were times you guided me through , when I thought I had no strength to do so. I will forever be grateful  for that and I'll keep your positivity within my heart,  alongside you.
Love you Stuart....sorry the fish pie wasn't always luxurious 🤣😘

Stuart kelso, where to begin, normally i would talk about football, our first great adventure,we hatched plan to go to manchester to see utd. I was 14 and he was 13! There was so much more, travels, books, Shakespeare, music, food, politics, stuart was my best friend. I could write a book. Above all this stuart kelso was a great human being,im going to miss him,our last great “outing”,was a 3,000mile road trip from northern alberta to south west mexico. I like to remember us in an old Volkswagen cruising across the mountains and over the desert with van the man playing. You can do a lot of talking over 3,000 miles but we were never stuck for conversation. He stayed in puerto vallarta 5 months in the sun and heat,on the beach, i think he was very happy. I will miss him, but i know he will want us all to continue living in his spirit.

  • What a lovely memory and you described the Stuart we knew perfectly! We all knew his love of Man Utd and books- he passed his love of books onto our granddaughter! We will always miss him but remember his kindness, sense of humour and generosity- he’ll always be ‘our Stuart’ x

Our deepest condolences to Stuart’s family and everyone who was lucky enough to know him.
From an early age, Stuart was always known as “Uncle” to my brothers and I. Whether it was a birthday, a big Man Utd milestone, or another work trip, Uncle Stuart always made sure there was mail for us; our garage was literally a canvas for all of his postcards.
It was especially humbling to host Uncle Stuart when he came for Jamie and Stuart’s wedding a few years ago.
We will miss his guidance, support, and most of all his ability to sit down and chat over a piece of toast and jam with a cup of tea.
We are all better for having known him, and hope he is at peace. Much love,

-Patrick, Jillian, and Hughie

Stuart and my Dad were best friends. Growing up I would refer to him as Uncle Stuart. I remember as a child excited to see what new postcard my Uncle Stuart would send me from some far away place, maybe this inspired me to have travels of my own when I was older. I remember a time when he visited us and I was playing football in my mid thirties and him coming to watch but it was as though I was a little kid having my Uncle watch me play football. When I had my daughter my Uncle Stuart through email was always there to listen and provide such great advice.I hope I can take the examples he showed me throughout his life into my own life and be a great human being!

We kicked football with Stuart as teenagers in Sydenham. He was best friends with Colin Lowry who lived opposite us in Sydenham Gardens. Many years later we enjoyed a holiday with Stuart in Canada when attending Michael & Stuart Lowrys weddings. He was great craic, an absolute gentleman and the years simply fell away as we recalled various stories from our youth in Belfast. We were all Glens’ men supporting Glentoran and matches at the Oval. There was that great night in 1968 when we drew 1-1 with the mighty Benfica! Cherished memories of a wonderful friend to all.
Condolences to his family and many friends near and far.

We met in our early teens during the Troubles in Belfast and a friendship began which lasted 55 years.
He became the brother I never had and Godfather to my daughter Giselle.
He was such a kind person and didn’t have a bad word to say about anyone.
Deeply loyal to his friends and his family.
What wonderful memories I will always have of the decades of adventures we had together.
He has left such a hole in my heart.
I’ll never have such a truely good friend as he was to me again.
Thinking of Alaistar and the rest of his family at this time.
Nicola
