It is with much sadness that I learned today, almost two years on, of Michael's passing.
As a teenager I was one of his original Aikido students back in the early nineties. From meeting and becoming one of the members of his small group in the now non-existent Sparta Boxing Gym in McDonald Road, through to the cramped sharing of Dalmeny Church Hall with Liam Malarky's Jujutsu club, to our final home of Lockhart Memorial Church (next to the Hibs ground), the time shared with him and our likeminded friends was one full of fun and raucous laughter.
'Cass' - as he was always known to me - was forever calm and patient, when he could very easily have kicked me out on numerous occasions due to my youthful rebelliousness. These traits, combined with the numerous tales of his former heroic exploits, have left an indelibly warm mark on my life that have resonated through the years and continue to this day.
Although I hadn't seen him in quarter of a century, my thoughts have often returned to those simple days and the wonderful, happy memories they've produced. Cass, you are dearly missed. Rest in peace my friend.
