In loving memory of Loving Wife, Daughter, Sister and Auntie, Rebecca Lucy McGrath, who sadly passed away on 19th May 2023.

Becca was born at Airedale Hospital on the 10th of April 1984. Full of life she always had a cheeky smile, a high energy and a passion for things and people she cared about.

She grew up in Bingley with her Father Barrie, her Mother Susan and her Sister Sarah. They always had close and loving relationship and would have a fun, laughter filled time when together.

She went to Myrtle Park First School, Ryshworth Middle and then Bingley Grammar and met some very close friends who are still her dear friends to this day.

She met me (Alec her Husband) in 2004 and we got married in 2009. We both loved animals, travelling and music together. We always had a laugh and were often compared to famous double acts like Morecambe and Wise or Vic and Bob as when together people in our company would be constantly laughing.

Becca Studied Law but did not complete her degree as it was a difficult point for her in her life. However she realised later in life that Art and Museums were her passion so she got back to studying.

With the Open University she very, proudly, managed to get a First-Class Honours BA In Humanities with Art History on the 31st of July 2017.

She then went on to study with the University of Leicester. She again managed to excell to the highest level and obtained a Masters in Museum Studies with Distinction.

She had an impressive career in her chosen field of Museums and worked for Bradford Council Museums such as The Industrial Museum, Bolling Hall, Cartwright Hall and Cliffe Castle. She loved her time at Bradford and again made many life long friends.

She also managed (much to her surprise) to get a position at York Minster which to this day still held a special place in her heart.

She then worked at York Museums trust (try as she might she couldn't seem to get away from York) and then she worked at the Thackray Museum of Medicine where unsurprisingly she met other friends who were and are still a big part of her life.

Becca had many nicknames in her life but to name a few:
Her Father called her Feg (Don't ask we have no idea where it came from either).
She was called Beccles by many friends.
I called her Babydoll, Angelface plus many others depending on my mood but too many to list here.

Bec was an avid Art lover.
She loved various techiniques, to name a few; impressionist, post-impressionist, abstract, Surrealism, Pop art and Minimalism.

Some of her favourite Artists were; Yayoi Kusama, Vincent Van Gogh, Gustav Klimt, Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Salvador Dali, Maurits Cornelis Escher and Hieronymus Bosch. I have added to the gallery some of her Favourite works, please take a look.

Becca was also a very talented artist herself, she created beautiful images with Ball Point Biros and she managed to exhibit them at the Saltaire Arts Trail (where she sold some), Eldwick Art show, Scartop Haworth and Cottingley.

If you would like to see some of Beccas creations please click the Blogspot link to the right of this page entitled "Becca's Doodles Art Page".

She was a big fan of historic architecture and many of our trips abroad (and here in the UK also) were centred around finding some known and unknown old buildings where she would spend hours looking at every detail. Some of her favourites to name a few are; Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris, Pont du Gard and La Sagrada Familia.

She loved literature both fiction and factual. She loved stories about artists, conspiracies and she was a massive fan of Lewis Carroll, especially Alice in Wonderland.

In regards to music her tastes were so varied. She loved 60's, Punk, Metal, Rock, Indie. Her playlists are an experience to see. They feature bands such as Manic Street Prachers, Rancid, Elkie Brooks, Beatles, Disturbed, The Misfits, The Pixies, Weezer, Billy Idol and even some eurovision acts.

Becca was a very special person to so many. We will always love and miss her. If you can attend her funeral that would be greatly appreciated. However if you cannot please spare a moment to think about this lovely person who was taken from us too soon.

She was a spark of brightness in this Darkness of life.

It just doesn’t seem real we won’t get to see you again and I really wish we could have met up more recently, I’m sorry for that. Becca, you had the biggest heart, and the world won’t be the same without you - you will be dearly missed xxx

…Becca was always making sure everyone was included and everyone felt comfortable, her seating plan took a long time to ponder and prepare - just one example of how thoughtful she was. I loved her passion for art (& shoes and bags!)…

When I first met Becca in our shared office at the Thackray, I instantly wanted to be her friend. Becca, being her warm, kind self, instantly took me under her wing. Working with Becca never felt like a chore, it was like being in some amazing, if not slightly surreal, alternative universe where a bunch of mates got to hang out in a medical museum all day. There aren't really enough words to do justice to the joy Becca brought. I miss her terribly, but I am so grateful for the time we spent together, and the friendship we formed. I'll keep in her my memory always - in the beautiful landscapes around Bingley and in the wonderful world of museum collections, both of which Becca enriched by bringing her diligent care, curious sprit and wise mind.

I remember many a day sitting around the bar chatting to Becca and Alec about much stuff and nonsense, and having many laughs together. Becca was a lovely, kind, caring soul with a wonderful sense of humour and a great taste in music and her husband. And even though I'm shedding a tear for her, I am also remembering her for who she was, and raising a glass to her.

Your gentle and caring nature shone out of your eyes like a sunbeam. Sometimes things happen in this life that just can’t make sense and it will never be fair that a bright and beautiful light did not get to glow longer. Sending love to your nears and beloveds who will feel your loss the most. You are back in the arms of your precious Dad now but you’ll always be a part of the McGrath clan in our hearts and minds and our family is all the richer for having you as part of it x
