In loving memory of Mary Elizabeth Goldsmith who sadly passed away on 11th May 2023.
Mary was born 19 October 1933, the youngest of three. Growing up in Blackfen, she left school to work in the Bank of England.
In 1955 Mary married Ron who she had met at a Christmas dance at the Woolwich Poly; they went on to have
three boys and a girl. Whilst the children were growing up, Mary worked as a dinner lady and then for many years as a classroom assistant. The school was a huge part of her life.
Mary & Ron enjoyed hosting students from abroad in the student exchange programme, with one French student going on to be a life-long friend. The money received for hosting paid for the family holidays; usually to the Isle of Wight. They were simple beach holidays, but are fondly remembered by all four children.
Mary, with her sister ran an over 60’s club, summer outings, harvest festivals and Christmas parties were all down to Mary’s sound organisational skills.
Mary’s family has grown to thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great grand children, with another on the way. Mary loved them all dearly and amazingly never missed a birthday.
In 2020, Mary sadly lost her beloved husband of almost sixty five years. Life was never the same again. In 2021 Mary moved from the family home to sheltered housing, soon making new friends and becoming part of the community, who supported her right to the end.
Rest in peace with dad mum;
We love and miss you so much. And always will. xxxx
