Condolences to Aunty Olive, Mark and Ian and families. I have such lovely memories of summers at the Rectory in Golden when John and Aunty Olive and Mark and Ian would come to stay, and if my memory serves me right Aunty Rose and Tommy, Joyce, Jean and John would sometimes come at the same time- we were always so excited awaiting the cars to come up the avenue, and we would have the best fun together. Great times and my mum Violet looked forward so much to the visits which she treasured so very much. RIP, John from Karen and family

  • As teenagers we were best mates - mutual best men. To me he was Whit, to him I was Fred (don't ask!). We shared so much of becoming adults, as we found careers from modest backgrounds (both did pretty well). I enjoyed many a time in the warm home of his Mum and Dad - and he in mine. We hitch hiked round England and holidayed together. We found our soulmates at the same time - he lovely Olive, me Marigold. We were both so fortunate to be loved so long by such wonderful women. As adults we met less often and then careers and geography intervened more. But I felt closer when in 2010 Ian and his family so warmly welcomed Marigold and me into their lovely home in Hong Kong for a couple of days. It is so odd to think of a world without Whit, the nearest to a brother that I would ever have or ever want. Fare thee well my good friend.
