George, a dear brother, uncle and friend to many. Anyone who knew George knew he was kind, thoughtful and generous and always there to give words of advice and a listening ear.

George born in Newcastle but raised in Rossington. George moved from Rossington to Wheatley in his early 20's, he visited remaining family that lived in Rossington regularly.

George was from a large family. One of 11 children. His family were important to him. Never forgetting a birthday and even though the family was ever growing he still remembered them all. His Christmas lists getting longer each year.

Starting his working career at the RSPCA in Bawtry, following to many years working in foundries, Binghams on Wheatley hall road and later Noel village, Balby Carr bank, Doncaster.
In recent years and up to his unexpected passing, George worked on the market for his friend Fred. They became friends from George’s many visits to Doncaster market. George was know to the local shop keepers and traders in Doncaster town centre and was a regular visitor. His trustworthy and friendly attitude led to him helping traders out for them to leave their stalls. He made friends over the years that left him unforgettable.

We all knew him for his opinions about anything from football to politics to local issues. Particularly the local market.

George was an intelligent and well read man. He loved to read, loved films…the nephews and nieces will remember fondly of our times watching Duck tales at uncle George’s. He was a big kid when it came to any children in his life. The one to get down on the floor and play games, the one to tease and have fun. This wasn’t just with family but the people he chose to be in his life. His lovely neighbour and friend of four years Paige. You made lockdown so much easier for him and for that we thank you. The time you shared in the gardens talking and having to listen to his singing.

George loved music always has. Some may have questioned his taste in music, it was varied. It would take shouting through his letter box to get his attention when visiting as his music could be too loud to hear the knocking. He would often walk in to town or to the lakeside and would not be without his trusty iPod and headphones. Music was a huge part of him.

When George wasn’t busy remembering everyone birthdays or everyone on his Christmas list he would only spend money on himself for his visits to Cornwall. Although these had not been as frequent as he would have liked he has visited many times. This is where we will be taking him for his final resting place. The place he loved to be and for a time considered moving to live.
