Michael Down (8 Sep 1946 - 10 Apr 2022)

In loving memory of Michael Down of Halwill, who sadly passed away on 10th April 2022 aged 75 years.

Beloved Husband of Mary, loving dad of Louise & Andrew dearest grandad of Sam & Beth.
Mike was born at Winsford Hospital, Halwill on the 8/9/1946. His Mum and Dad Rene and Victor lived in Halwill and 4 years later Mike had a little sister called Pauline. Mike started School at Chilla moving to Halwill Primary and then to Holsworthy Secondary Modern.

When he left school, he worked for Mr Ron James and then as a painter decorator for Holsworthy District Council. Mike and Mary were married in 1968 at Sutcombe Methodist Chapel and moved into Greenbank Villa where they lived until 1976. During this time Mary and Mike had a baby daughter Louise, born in 1971 – Mikes dad died in February 1972. They moved to Mill House Farm in 1976 living opposite Mikes family with whom they shared a wonderfully unique lifestyle. Mike enjoyed sport and played football for Halwill. He joined Hatherleigh Bowling Club playing for several years and travelling to various tournaments and events. He was a member of Halwill Parish Council for several years taking on the role of chairman. He was also a member of the Holsworthy Motor Club and enjoyed taking part in the London Lands End Trials, Exeter Trials and local motor club events. He also served a term as chairman for Holsworthy Motor Club.

Whilst living at Mill House Mike started his own building business juggling it with his 1st love of farming keeping stock cows & calves and sheep which he managed before and after the day job and at weekends (with a little help) from anyone who was handy.

Life changed when Mike was diagnosed with cancer in 2015. He fought so hard and had such a positive attitude to his diagnoses that it made it so much easier for everyone to bear.
