Joyce Heppel (11 May 1934 - 30 Oct 2022)

In loving memory of Joyce Heppel who sadly passed away on 30th October 2022
Joyce was brought up by her Grandmother, who she called Mum, she was always Mum to her and her aunts and uncles all became her brothers and sisters. Joyce's extended family included Ruby, Joe, and Jessie from her Grandmothers first marriage and Bob, Lil, and her birth Mum Elsie from her second marriage.
Joyce lived in Witton Gilbert in County Durham with her grandmother until her late teenage years. When all the pits started to close in the area her family moved to find work. Joyce and her Mum moved to Yorkshire where most of the family had moved, to Rossington.
Joyce worked at the Crompton Parkinson factory in Doncaster when she first came to live in Doncaster. She met Jim while on a weekend trip with her friends to Blackpool. Joyce and Jim were married at St Luke’s Church in Rossington on Christmas eve 1955.
Joyce and Jim moved to their first home in Cross Street Rossington. This was followed by the birth of their two children, Val, and Tony.
Joyce was never settled in the house at 21 Cross Street after the death of her Mum, so when a house became available in Haig Crescent, opposite her sister Lil and her husband Tom, Joyce and her family moved to Haig Crescent.
Joyce always worked as well as being a full time Mum. First with her sister Lil as a Domestic help for Mr and Mrs Britton on Littleworth Lane. Joyce then found employment at the Parkinson’s sweet factory. Joyce always needed to help and care for someone, so after Val was married to Vince and Tony to Deb, Joyce went to work as a home help looking after old people. Joyce and Jim had four Grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Lil Joyce's sister and her husband Tom moved into a bungalow on Primrose Circle and soon after Joyce and Jim got the chance to move to Morrison Drive two doors away around the corner. At the age of sixty four Joyce decided to retire from work to look after grandchildren .When the wife of Jim's friend George died, Jim invited George to come and live with them. After many happy years married Jim passed away on 2003. Joyce shared many happy times with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren until ill health hindered her mobility early in 2022. In October Joyce was taken into DRI to receive palliative care, she was moved to St John's Hospice five days later Joyce passed away peacefully.
