In loving memory of Kenneth Short who sadly passed away at home on 26th September 2022 in the company of his family.

Ken was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.

Born on the 7th November 1934, Ken had a rich and colourful life. Evacuated from London to Devon at the age of 5 with his brother Bob who was just two years older - they fended for themselves for several years, living in a shed at the bottom of a garden. Upon his return, his school life has mixed results where he was considered a very bright lad who “could apply himself more”!

From school, Ken was enlisted in the RAF for national service before joining the merchant navy where he sailed all over the world, mostly on oil tankers.

During this period he met the love of his life, Mary, in Southend, who he married in 1971. He also gained two step-daughters Angela and Susan, who to him were his daughters and he loved them as such for the rest of his life.

Shortly afterwards Ken and his family moved to Norwich, and in 1974 his son Martin was born and soon after this his sailing days were put behind him. The years that followed saw Ken as a chemical factory operative, antiques and art dealer, market trader, painter and decorator and gardener.

Ken was an exceptional man who made many sacrifices. His wife Mary has lived with Multiple Sclerosis for over 40 years and he devoted himself to caring for her, always without any complaint. He cared for her right until the near end when he could no longer manage.

Ken loved a real ale and was a familiar and hugely popular face around the pubs of Norwich. We used to joke that you could walk into any pub in Norwich, and someone would say “alright Kenny?!”. He also had a passion for art, music, fishing and the Arsenal!

He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
