In loving memory of Victor (Vic) John Wickenden who sadly passed away on 12th August 2022, aged 89 years.

Vic was a real gentleman with many friends that he had gained during different periods of his life; school, work, Sunday church (Rainham Social club) and of course his favourite football team, Gillingham FC.

Vic was married to Sheila for 53 years. While he missed his beloved Sheila after her passing in 2014 he made is family proud with how well he coped on his own. He joined a few clubs, the Evergreens, the Southern Water retirement club and continued to attend the Southern Water Cascades club monthly meetings. He very much enjoyed going to ‘church’ on a Sunday with the lads as well as the annual boys trip to Brighton.

He leaves behind 3 daughters, 2 son in laws, 3 grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Floral tributes may be sent by 10.00 am on Wednesday 7th September, C/O John Weir Funeral Directors, 130-132 High Street, Rainham, Kent, ME8 8AR.

Alternatively donations in memory of Vic may be made to Medway League of Friends by logging onto their website: medwayleagueoffriends.org.uk.

We spent the last few days with Dad in Medway hospital. The league of friends funded the family room we used which provided facilities for food, drink and to freshen up. We are very grateful for their generous help and wish to contribute towards the league so they can carry on their good work in helping people during what can be their hardest times.

Donations for this charity may also be made by cheque which should be made payable to The Medway League of Friends and can be posted to: Medway League of Friends, Medway Maritime Hospital, Windmill Road, Gillingham, Kent. ME7 5NY, enclosing a message to say in memory of Vic Wickenden.

Vic was a top man and I enjoyed working with him on the Southern water social club committee for many years. Vic had a great sense of humour and was always a chatty person who looked on the positive side of life. Sad to see you go Vic, but you had a great life and helped many people

  • Thank you Cliff. I know mum & dad loved the annual Cascades Christmas dinner and dance as did all the family. Mum & dad used to treat us to the tickets and overnight stay for Christmas. They loved the opportunity it presented to have their family together for the evening and breakfast the next morning at the hotel

My memories start from a young age when dad used to carry all 3 of us upstairs to bed then let us brush and play with his hair (yes he had hair then) for hours. Until mum would shout up the stairs to see where he was.

The sitting in different rooms, as we had been naughty, waiting for dad to come home from work. Then he would just say ‘what have you done now? Well run along and try to be good now’. He was such a softy.

Dad coming home from Christmas Southern water dos and the Cascades club dinner and dance worse for wear. Mum not being too pleased but dad would compensate with agreeing to something like a new TV.

Going to see The Gills matches with dad. I loved our time together at the football and our lunches out before each game.

Always in my heart, the best dad a daughter could have ❤️ Rest in peace dad.
