In loving memory of Leslie Monk who sadly passed away on 23rd July 2022.
He was born in 1929 and grew up in Southampton with his Mum and Dad, Kate and Walter. He joined the Navy as a boy sailor and enjoyed the travel and cameraderie and of course the football, especially in Hong Kong! he left the Navy and married Myra who sadly died in a road accident when Steve was just six months old and Les rejoined the Navy with Steve being raised by his Nan, Kate.
He left the Navy and became a postman in 1966 and married Ann( who came complete with Liz) in 1967, just six months after their first meeting, bringing Steve and Liz together in their family of four. In the next three years Pam and Ali were born, completing their family. They lived in Thornhill where they met Norah and the Sizer family, who became and extended family and true friends for life. A move to Millbrook followed and it was there that the children grew up and moved away . They made many friends among neighbours and stayed in touch.
The grandchildren arrived and grew up enveloped in the love and laughter that was always a part of Les’s life. He worked so hard at all times for his family and was the happiest and most supportive husband, dad, grandad and great grandad anyone could have wished for. He was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He and Ann moved to Park Gate to be near family in 2010 and spent many happy hours with family at home and on holidays. As his health deteriorated in his 90’s he did his very best to fight his illnesses and disabilities, but finally lost his battle after being separated from his beloved Ann who was his rock throughout his life. He will be missed forever by his family and always in their hearts and minds.
