Matthew Robert Shirley (13 May 1980 - 12 Jul 2022)

Matt was born on 13th May 1980 at Kingsmill hospital.
He grew up & went to school in Kirkby in Ashfield meeting his future wife Janine at Ashfield comprehensive.
After leaving school he had a few temporary jobs before settling into a sales role in the valve & actuator industry.
In his early years Matt loved to go narrow boating with his grandparents and was an avid fan of formula 1 racing. He enjoyed music, particularly the blues going to many concerts. Although he didn’t take lessons, Matt enjoyed strumming on his guitar, teaching himself his favourite songs.

Matt & Janine found each other again & started their life together in a house they bought in Forest Town & few years later his beautiful daughter Fearne was born. In 2015 Matt & Janine tied the knot.
Matt had suffered with ill health since 2005 & when he suffered a stroke in 2016, he sometimes found life a struggle. The effort it took to go work to provide for his family meant that by the time he got home, he was exhausted. Despite this, he was the most sociable of people & would have been friends with the world given the chance.

Matt loved his family, he was devoted to his wife Janine & their daughter Fearne. He was a loving son to his parents Steve & Liz. We loved him immeasurably & miss him dreadfully. We’ll see you in the stars Matt.

Matt passed away on 12th July at Nottingham city hospital.
