In loving memory of Phil Stoneham who sadly passed away on 14th April 2022 at East Surrey Hospital.

Phil grew up in Southfields with his brothers Richard and Michael. Phil spent his childhood runnng free on Wimbledon Common.

He went to Wandsworth Boys School where he joined their prestigious school choir. His love of music and choral singing remained and he sang with numerous choirs in productions at The Royal Albert Hall, Guildhall, Southbank, Barbican, Royal concerts and many other high profile concerts throughout his adult life, he loved his music.

Phil and his late brother Richard were lifelong Fulham fans and met regularly at Craven Cottage as season ticket holders to celebrate or commiserate their achievements.

Phil also was passionate about cricket. Over the years he was a member of Surrey and Middlesex Cricket Club and spent many a 'happy hour' at The Oval or Lords. He travelled to Kenya and Sri Lanka to watch England play.

In 1972 Phil joined the Met Police. Phil had a very varied and interesting career with the Met, mostly spent in CID.
Phil had been planning a celebration later this year for his 50th year in policing and investigation. At the time of his death he was enjoying being part of the Op. Kenova historical enquiry team.

Phil was a father and grandad.

Outwardley Phil could look grumpy but those that knew him, knew him to be an intelligent, loyal, kind hearted and fair person, who would help anyone. He was meticulous and dilligent with his work. His ability to recall numbers and information remained sharp to the end.

Phil and Tracey met in The Met and enjoyed 23 very happy, loving and fun years together. They travelled, shared many experiencies and had a blast. In 2012 Phil became a dog dad to Poppy and later Morse. Phil adored the dogs and they him.

Phil was keen on researching his family tree. Some years ago he made contact with the daughter of his auntie, who at the time was living in Saltzburg. A strong bond was forged and we visited his cousin and her husband numerous times, enjoying lots of laughs, meals and new experienes. Phil remained in constant touch and truly valued their friendship.

Phil battled significant health problems from 2003 onwards. He never complained and never gave up. He remained working and part of the investigation team until days before his death.

Phil was a good man, a kind man, a much loved husband and friend and he is sorely missed.
Goodbye old friend ❤

Sad to hear this news. Knew this chap well when he was a CSC. Lots of respect, a good man, knew his stuff and happy to help. Gone far too soon.

Uncle Phil - what can I say. Regular visits throughout my childhood! Walks in Richmond Park. Lots of laughter with a wry smile. Part of my wedding party, and in top hat and tails looked so like my Dad Mike, people thought you were twins! Every time we came back from Uganda you came to visit us and our brood. Sending lots of love to Tracy and the others you left behind. Hugs always. Raych and family.

Dad/Phil had 2 children. Me, Rebecca Jane born December 1984 and Helen Louise born July 1992. My fondest memory of him was his passion for music and how he has passed that on not just to me but to his 3 grandchildren, Joshua Peter, Emilia Jane and Lucy Rose, who are forever aiming and dancing to what ever comes on the radio. Buddy Holly, the Beatles and classic FM are firm choices! Not to mention his cheese tomato and salad cream sandwiches, which again is always a staple go to now in our house.
Dad also came on a number of school residential trips while I was at primary school, most notably corf castle. He chose to drive down separately (with me in the back) so there was enough space for an extra teacher.

It is sad that we lost contact over very recent years but his spirit will live on in them!

Phil was a good friend and colleague, I worked with him for over 10 years, I would often joke with him as to whether he was wearing his flying squad watch? He’d say always, it moves backwards 2 hours in the
morning and forwards 2 hours in the afternoon and went twice as fast at weekends! Top bloke, lifetime in policing, enjoy your rest mate.

A sad loss of a dear friend. I knew Phil for very nearly 25 years and he was kind-hearted, generous with a mischievous sense of fun. He will be very sadly missed by both me and my wife Cindy. Goodbye old friend.
