In loving memory of Fenella Flanagan who sadly passed away on 5th April 2022, aged 68 after a long but brave battle with Alzheimer’s.

Fenella was one of those lucky people who was gifted with both exceptional intelligence and great beauty. She was kind and funny and if you were lucky enough be be one of her friends, you had a good and true friend for life.

Fenella lived an exciting and glamorous life in many ways; she was entrepreneurial which meant she ran and was involved in many different businesses; she had friends in all corners of the globe and she travelled the world many times over although spending most of her adult life living and working in Bahrain. And yet there were no pretensions - Fenella never forgot her roots growing up in Salisbury and she never forgot to visit and stay in touch with those people who were part of her early life and formative years. Reconnecting with her cousin Kiara (who had been brought up in Australia but then moved back to the UK) brought her incredible joy and happiness.

Fenella loved children despite not having any of her own. Perhaps this is why she so passionately loved, indulged and entertained her friends children, all of whom look back kindly on Fenella as some sort or wonderful Fairy Godmother. Fenella enjoyed being real-life Godmother to Karina Matlub.

The very homely side to Fenella, which sat comfortably alongside her more glamorous bent (always beautifully groomed, never without her designer sunglasses perched on top of her head) meant that she was never happier than when she met her long-term partner Gudvin, who she loved, indulged and cared for with such passion and gratitude that he had come into her life. This relationship brought three wonderful step-sons Øystein, Kristian and Jens into her life also, and then later, when they had their own children, Fenella revelled in being a Grandmother and Aunt.

If ever there was a life well lived, it was Fenella’s.

Rest in Peace, Fenella. I was only young when you were living in Bahrain, but the memories I do have are pleasant. Wherever you are going now, I hope your journey is exciting and filled with light.

HOT CHOCOLATE FOR TEA
We have such lovely memories. Some a little bizarre! Fenella knocked on our door in Bahrain one day in the '80s and ramdomly brought a member of 'Hot Chocolate' to tea..
God bless Fenella

I am deeply saddened to hear the sad news. Fenella was a wonderful friend, full of life and vigor. I have many great memories of the times she spent in Bahrain and our involvement with her in publishing a very successful magazine ‘This is Bahrain’ covering the business and social life of Bahrain. She was a fun-loving person, always adventurous with a great sense of humor and entrepreneurial spirit.

We stayed in contact with her and Gudvin in Bahrain and abroad and met them during my visits to London. We enjoyed many social gatherings in Bahrain and London.

My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in these difficult times.

May her soul rest in peace.

Those we love are always connected by heartstrings into infinity.

Fenella was, indeed one of those people who has left a permanent impression to many of her Co-Workers, acquaintances and friends during the time we all lived in Bahrain and beyond those memorable years. So many memories of lunches and dinners at our favourite restaurant venues which would erupt into much mirth and merriment on a regular basis, frivolity by swimming pools and on boats and the regular Friday Morning Champagne Breakfasts. So many memories were created during our years in the Kingdom.

Fenella led a rich and exciting life filled with experiences that we all listened to intently of her exploits and adventures around the world. She was attractive – inside and out, talented in so many ways, totally honest and extremely loyal to all her many friends around the world. Nothing - and I mean nothing - was too much trouble to help them in any way she could. It was in Bahrain that she met her Life Partner, Gudvin and also where they began creating a life together that took them around the world but mainly focused in Norway, the United Kingdom, the Cayman Islands and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands spending valuable time with Gudvin’s children.

The life of our dear friend, “Fanny”, began to change with the early onset diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease with its cruelness of making her memory start to fade and her rich collection of experiences scrambled. She bravely fought the ravages of the disease before finally succumbing to it earlier this month.
We, her friends, are all left with a host of memories of the fantastic times we have spent together over many decades and Fenella - has mercifully been released from the clutches of the disease and had all her library of memories returned to her!!!

RIP Fanny

Memories of good times and wonderful friendships in Tortola are very dear to us. Fenella is very much a part of those memories. She was always ready for a party, a tennis game or just a good conversation. We loved her and will always treasure those memories. The Coverts
