David and Anna welcomed us into their house in the first years of our marriage and gave us a home. They were a real answer to prayer and such a blessing to us in that time. We used to love hearing David playing one of his many instruments from downstairs and very quickly became infected with his and Anna’s enthusiasm for the local wildlife they cultivated in the back garden. We used to love hearing David’s stories of what sounded like an incredibly varied and vibrant life - stories I’m not sure we would have believed if we hadn’t seen first hand how much he did even in his later years. David left such a lasting impact on us, we owe so much to him and Anna for those years and we know our marriage would not be what it is without the enormous blessing they were to us. Even when we tried to repay David and Anna even a little bit for their enormous generosity, we would come away feeling like they had gifted us even more - such that expressing our gratitude felt almost like a futile endeavour! We saw first hand how much joy he brought to Anna and everyone else who new him, and the strength and depth of his faith was inspiring and a real antidote to the idea of unthinking, unreasonable faith. We will miss David greatly, though look forward to seeing him again one day and thanking him for all the continued ways he has impacted our lives.

We knew David for many years when he lived at Stoke Poges. We joined his church, Stoke Poges Free, and also occasionally played tennis with him. He also played regular badminton and had a huge knowledge of the workings of all things technical, which he used to great effect in setting up the church’s PA for its weekly meetings. This of course was on top of his guitar playing, and also preaching, which he was gradually developing when not playing guitar at Stoke Poges Free Church. I accompanied him on piano for some years at services and found him to be understanding, helpful, inspirational and knowledgeable on worship matters, learning a lot in the process. His enthusiasm was catching, his faith was steady and he was clear on his destiny. We missed him greatly when he moved to Purley, but appreciated that by then he had found immense happiness with Anna.

We will miss David's wonderful sermons, his lovely guitar playing especially 'Cornerstone, his exemplary life serving God, his compassion and support for ministry in distant lands and for being the voice of sense and reason in many a prayer meetings. Your life represented your love and service to God to the very end and will remain an example to us all, thank you.
Rest on in the Lord dear friend.

We met David and Anna when they joined our church and also when they became our neighbours. David was clearly a man of god . His knowledge of the bible was amazing. We both enjoyed and learnt so much when he preached in the church. We will miss you David but know you are now with our Heavenly Father.

David with Anna we valued members of our congregation who have led exemplary lives and have challenged us as well. David will be remembered for his determination to do God's work and nothing could limit him. Even when he was given very few weeks to live, he lived as if nothing had happened.
David will be very much missed and remembered for his diligence and commitment to God's work. He left a legacy in RCBC which will always be remembered.
Have a restful sleep David till we meet again.
Blessings

I never had the privilege of meeting David in person but I know he was a mighty man of God and turned my dear friend Anna’s life upside down in the best possible way. Preaching, leading worship, playing music, writing sermons, romantic meals, holidays and not forgetting his generosity and kindness. Anna would talk of how he loved to joke, have fun and the pleasure he got from flying along the motorway in his fab car. He loved her dearly, she misses him so much. They were complete together.
I never had the honour of his presence here on earth but one day we will worship the king of kings, King Jesus together.

I am privileged to have met and spent time with David when he and my sweet friend Anna came to the states to visit and when my husband and I along with my sister and brother in law visited them in England. What memories we share! Especially while in England, we thoroughly enjoyed David’s wit and humor and were in awe of his obvious intelligence. We will see you later David.

  • David was my beloved husband, we had 7 amazing years together and I thank God for every one of them. We laughed a lot, did many things together were a dynamic duo, and shared a deep and wonderful friendship that most couples dont. David was kind, caring, generous and a wonderful story teller who had many stories to tell. I will miss him, miss his Irish jokes, and much more. Before he died he told me being married to me had been fun, I had been the best wife he could have ever had and was very happy. He wanted two more years to preach and although ill enjoy the happy life we shared together. He was my husband and I loved him and his memory will live on in my heart for ever. rest in peace my beloved, heaven has gained another guitar player xx
