In loving memory of Edna Szumiak who sadly passed away on 5th of March 2022 at the age of 93.
We welcome anyone that knew and loved Edna to join us in celebrating her life on the 28th of March 2022 at 13.00 at the St Alban Ukrainian Catholic Church, 12 West Street, Nottingham, NG2 4QY.
This will be followed by a burial service at Wilford Hill.
There will also be a wake, the destination will be confirmed at a later date.
Edna Szumiak (Eddy) was a very special lady, she was known for her beautiful smile and infectious laugh. She loved spending time with family and friends and would do anything to help you. She was beautiful inside and out and touched so many lives. She was an inspiration and will continue to be a role model for many people. Edna was loyal and someone you could always rely on, nothing was too much. She was the life and soul of the party, often the last one on the dance floor. She touched so many lives and will be truly missed.
Edna was an incredible Mum, Gran, Great Gran, Sister and Wife. She was a special friend to many.
Edna grew up in Atherton with her Mum, Dad, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Edna lost one sister at a young age and lost her dad at the age of 10, she absolutely adored him.
Edna went potato picking in Nottingham and met her husband Stefan Szumiak, after their marriage on the 14th August 1954 she embraced being part of the Ukrainian community and Ukrainian traditions that are still a central part of her family’s life to date. Edna was not aware of what was currently happening in the Ukraine prior to her death, if she did know she would have been absolutely devastated and would have wanted to help in any way she could. We are therefore requesting that in order to honour her memory donations are made to either the Ukrainian Catholic church who are supporting the Ukrainian refugees or contributions to flowers at the funeral.
Edna had three children, five Grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was loved by them all and was the bestest Mum and Gran we could have ever wished for. We only have the best memories of Edna. She was our ray of sunshine and will live in our memories forever.
We love you to the moon and back and millions more.
RIP Edna XXXX
