In loving memory of Rev. David A. Grigor who sadly passed away on 18th December 2021 aged 92.

We appreciate that, in these current times, it will not be possible for everyone who might wish to attend to be present at the funeral. Please find below the link for the live stream, this link will become active on the day:

https://youtu.be/0WLnYSuEDj8

If you are attending, we would ask that you take a lateral flow test beforehand on the day of the funeral.

After the service, close family will attend the burial. Unfortunately, given COVID concerns and with long journeys home for many people, we are not able to offer the opportunity to meet together afterwards.

We would request that there be family flowers only, but should you wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, there are details of two charities on the obituary page.

David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had been married to Stella for 64 years and together they had four children, Mary, Rachel, John and David, seven grandchildren and two great grandsons.

He served as:

Curate of Christchurch, Hengrove (1954-57);
Curate of St Mary’s, Marshfield (1957-60);
Vicar of St John the Baptist, Newport Barnstaple (1960-67);
Vicar of St Paul’s, Preston Paignton (1967-1973);
Vicar of Christchurch, Rio de Janeiro (1973-74);
Chaplain to Exeter School and part of the ministry team at Heavitree Parish (1974-77);
Chaplain to Brighton College (1977-88);
Chaplain to Warminster School (1989-92);
Part-time chaplain in San Pedro, Costa del Sol (1993-94);
Part-time chaplain at St George’s Tunis (1996-98).

A belated message.

My family and I met David while in Tunisia, during the early 1990's. We remember David with fondness, not only for his love of God, but also for his fellow man, and if I may, for us as a family. Both he and Stella took unto themselves to take care of their flock in Tunis, and provided us with care and love. They became the unofficial grandparents of my children, something that one cannot describe in words.

We were even blessed later in life when they came to visit us in South Africa, an unexpected and lovely surprise!

When remembering David, the words love, caring and support come to mind, words with meaning, and describing why it is easy to remember him.

May his sole rest in eternal peace.

Andries & Ilse Oosthuizen

David was the Chaplin at Brighton College when we were there. He came back to the College in 1991 to help the resident Chaplin at our wedding. It was an honour to be able to attend his funeral service today.
