Lena, born Lilian Gregson on the 19th March 1938 in Paisley, Scotland, was the youngest of three, having two older brothers, Albert and William. She had a difficult start in life and she, as well as her mother and her two brothers moved to London for a new beginning. She looked after her mother who had multiple sclerosis while the boys found work in the docks of East London. Their mother died when she was seventeen and a short while after she made the decision to change her life and joined the Army. On completing training she was posted first to Cyprus and then to Singapore where she met the love of her life William Honour, Bill or Ginge, as he was known by his friends, who was also serving in the Army. They were then married on November 21st 1959, at St. George’s Garrison Church, Tangling, Singapore. Lena gave birth to their son, Kevin on 17th August,1960. Nine weeks later, the new family moved back to England. They were stationed at Middle Wallop, Andover, in Hampshire. They were thrilled to then have a daughter Tracey, on 5th April 1963.

They both enjoyed extensive travelling within Army life, based in several places in Europe and the Far East, such as Germany, Malaya and Hong Kong. During the mid 60’s, their love of travelling was put to the test, when after only 3 weeks of being back in England, with Lena only just finishing unpacking the last of their boxes, Bill came home from work one day to announce the great news, that they were being posted to Malaya! Consequently, after a few choice words, Lena had to start packing again. - After a further ten years of happy Army family life, Bill & Lena settled in England, in Andover, in 1976, when Bill finished his Army career. However, someone forgot to tell them it was ok to settle in one place. They carried on moving to different parts of England, before finally returning to Andover.

In August 1990, when Bill was teaching at The School of Army Aviation in Middle Wallop, they were very happy to see their son Kevin get married to Marian. Within the next year, they were elated to become grandparents too, when their daughter Tracey gave birth to a treasured granddaughter, Marie. This was followed by the birth of two much loved grandsons, Sean and Daniel, born to Kevin and Marian in 1993 & 1996, respectively.

Their travelling bug surfaced again when they decided in November 2002, when both in retirement, to move to Spain. They enjoyed just over 7 years there and was another happy time in their lives. During that time, their family, including the grandchildren & extended family, had lots of fun holidays with them, until their return to England in August 2009.

When back in England, they liked nothing better than meeting up with their family & grandchildren and also became close to Marian’s family at the Annual Family BBQ’s.

A difficult time lay ahead for Lena losing Bill in June 2013 and Tracey two years later in March 2015. Lena remained in Andover, with her granddaughter Marie, for the next 3 years. Following that, Kevin and Marian found a flat for her to move to in Walderslade, to be closer to them, so they could take care of her & provide more company. In the last year, she was very happy when Daniel announced he had got engaged to Maria and was planning to get married in 2023.

Overall, Lena enjoyed her last few years in the company of the friends she made at Woodlands Court, where she resided. She also loved any family get togethers and days out.

Lena was a very much loved Mum and Nanny, who will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. We love you. Rest in peace.

All our love.

Kevin, Marian, Sean, Daniel and Marie
