In loving memory of Pauline Margaret Whitehurst who sadly passed away on 6th August 2015 after an 18 year fight against Carcinoid Cancer. Beloved mother of Karen and Sarah, grandma of Stella and Cooper, Jake, Hannah and Benjamin, Pauline will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

Pauline gave up her blossoming career as a mechanical engineer to raise her daughters, and her life centered around them and her late husband Alan. Well known for her love of all crafts including dressmaking, knitting, embroidering and toy making, to card making, jewellery making and recently watercolour painting, Pauline loved to make things that would be appreciated by others.

Pauline spent the last two weeks of her life in the truly wonderful Katharine House Hospice in Stafford, who made her friends and family so welcome during this important time. We welcome donations to Katharine House Hospice instead of flowers for the funeral. The funeral is on Monday 17th August, 3pm at Stafford Crematorium (please be aware of roadworks on Beaconside A513 causing delays), and afterwards at the Morris Man pub, Alliss Close, ST16 3LA (off Weston Road). Please do not feel you need to wear black, as Pauline loved to wear bright colours, so we welcome a colourful service as a celebration of her life.

Sarah. Karen and families, thinking of you at this sad time.
I remember when we first walked the girls to school, which broke the ice & nearly broke my foot !
Michelle & Sharon bought me a jewellery making kit for Christmas one year and of course there was only 1 person I could call, Pauline was eager to show me how to put them together.

I am unsure where to start with this and have been thinking it over ever since Karen sent me the link. So here goes..

Having known Pauline for the majority of my life. It is difficult for me to contemplate that I will not see her again.

Only a few weeks ago we had visited her in hospital, Pauline was hopeful of the move to Katherine House Hospice so that she could recover and return home to her beloved Ruby.

Pauline was showing us pictures that Sarah & Karen had sent of the kids and telling us how very proud she was of Sarah with all of the work she had been doing on the house and that she had learnt so much during the process and project managed the build with Dan. Explaining to us for about the 3rd time what it is that Karen does for a living (We never really did understand but we have asked Karen now and we get it!). She was so very proud of her two daughters and loved their families so dearly, always getting ready for the next time they were going to visit or when she was going to stay.

I grew up with Pauline & Alan and went through stages of life with them.
First they were Sarah & Karen’s parents who we would see what we could get away with when they weren’t looking (like raiding the drinks cabinet at lunch time)
Then when we had all grown up and went on holiday to Spain and we got Pauline just a little too drunk (there is a theme to this, have you noticed?)
Lastly, seeing them both as friends in later years, being called upon every now and again to go to Tesco because the Baileys was on offer (there’s that theme again!)

I truly hope that there really is life after death and hope that Pauline & Alan are now both reunited as they are a couple that needed each other.

I still cannot get it in my head, that the phone won’t be ringing asking us to go round and change the batteries in Ruby’s feeder again… oh wait that job has been passed to Larry !
Sarah, Karen, Family & Friends, I think you will all agree that Pauline’s passing has left a hole in all of our hearts.

If we can all take something from this, it is that life is far too short and we must live it to our full potential.

A wonderful summary of Pauline's life. She welcomed me into her family and became my 'Stafford Mum'. Pauline, you will truly be missed but your wisdom lives on in those who benefit from it. You can be free from pain, at peace and be with Alan again.
