In loving memory of John Tipple who sadly passed away on 25th November 2021. The Funeral will be held on Tuesday December 21 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saint's Church in East Meon, located at 2 Church St, East Meon, Petersfield GU32 1NL. All are welcome. In line with Covid rules, we are required to wear a mask.

John was a war baby, born in 1940 as the middle of 3 sons to his parents Ernest and Ethel. Both parents and elder brother (Peter) are now dead but younger brother (Paul) is alive and well and living in Brazil. John met Pearl in the early 60’s and they brought up 4 children – David, Julie, Nicola and Jonathan. Pearl sadly died in 2004 and her ashes are buried in East Meon churchyard.

John left school after A-levels, and followed a science career joining Imperial College in South Kensington in the early 60’s. He stayed at Imperial College until 1995.

John and Pearl moved around quite a lot from the 60’s to the 90’s starting in Battersea and ending up in East Meon via Epsom, Mitcham, Coulsdon and Arundel.

Following Pearl’s death John moved to Horndean and was later joined by son Jonathan who has been his main family support for the past few years.

When not working, John loved his garden (and other's gardens) , his grandchildren (Graeme, Lydia and Kellie-Anne), his friends, his many dogs over the years, watching the stock market’s up’s and down’s and trying to pick the right time to buy or sell. In later years he developed a strong interest in climate change and all matters environmental – the scientist in him clearly still prominent.

He also loved playing scrabble with anyone who would take him on. And was never short a word or two when able to find a captive audience to listen to his multiple stories.

And John was an animal lover and over the years he supported many worthy causes. Recently, he chose to focus his gifts on Flora and Fauna and we are suggesting donations in lieu of flowers.

He was kind, funny, cheeky and generous with all. And always ready for a cuppa!

Feel free to share fond memories of him with us.

John,
It was an absolute pleasure to know you and listen to your tales, musings and anecdotes of your time at Imperial, gardening for the Prof. your love of Butser Hill and the outdoors, maritime history, and spoiling Jazzy and the other furry friends in your life. You loved playing Scrabble and then later on 'Word Blitz' online, and i enjoyed many a game with you. I also enjoyed you teaching me about 'forestry management', and ahem, the joy of bonfires. We also shared a love of 'Minder' and I expect you've already met up with George Cole, probably in the 'Winchester' bar.

You showed me great kindness John, and i'll never forget one of the first times i saw you when we came to visit - as we gingerly navigated up a flooded pitch black green lane in what felt like the middle of nowhere to get to you, we were about to turn back when suddenly, the car headlights caught this lone figure of a man, like a giant bear, standing in front of us in wellies, waving us through. 'It's ok' you shouted, 'you'll make it', with water up to your knees! 'That's Dad!' Julie said, and i'm so glad we got stranded there that weekend as the lane became a river and I had no choice but to to get to know you. It really was a pleasure. Thanks for everything John, i'll miss you.

My Memories of John Tipple by “Wilbur” Lake
I first met John at Garth School in 1953. We had both passed the 13+ exam to study the Building Construction Technical Course. Over the many years since then, us classmates maintained regular contact, eventually to all meet again in 2003 at the 50 year class anniversary which I organised.

Over nearly 70 years, John has been a true friend - I shall miss his intelligence and good sense, his wit and his genuine affection for me and my family.

JOHN TIPPLE – “GONE”

Gone are the pains, Gone are the aches
You’ve Gone to some place new
Gone to meet the family again
And friends that you once knew
Gone from the opera, Gone from the jazz
Gone from the comfy chair
Gone is the grin, Gone is the smile
But our memories are forever there

RIP Dad.

He saw me into the world and I was able to be with him when he left this world. Like a big bear going into hibernation only he won’t be waking up in the spring. My greatest friend and support. I’m lost without you. My dear Papa x
