In loving memory of Andrew Ross who sadly died on November 1st at his home, having been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in January 2021. Andy was the much loved brother of Paul, Steve and Kate, husband of Helen and stepfather of John, Shaun, Dane, Andrea and Mike. He was, overall, a kind, generous and thoughtful man, who never let a call for help go unanswered. Andy was a man who loved people and enjoyed numerous friendships and social activities - theatre (both watching and performing), music of all varieties, eating out, walking and quizzing. It was a great sadness to him when his increasing disability curtailed his ability to enjoy these activities and confined him to his home. Our sadness at his passing is mixed with a measure of relief that he is now free from the devastating effects of his illness.

Dear Andy,
all my life you were an inspiration to me.
Your kindness, honesty, courage in living what you believed in, humility and generosity of all you had, inspired me, and I loved you.
Kate.

Every year at St Aldhelms Carol concerts, I without fail get the giggles when I'm placed on the front row, remembering a particularly packed concert, with a huge congregation (and even bigger choir!) Several years back. Due to the lack of space I was stood less than half a meter from you, and the look on your face as I leapt from the alto line up to the descant in Hark the Herald at quite a volume was priceless, by the end of the concert we were locked in a 'sing off'-which I'm sure you won despite my attempts to sing every high note. We really will miss your smile and voice this year but I will sing my best top notes in your honour.

I will never forget your kindness and understanding during the earlier days of my own health problems- generously appearing one afternoon with a surprise for me- a wheelchair (until that point it had been much needed, recommended by many, but most stubbornly refused) which you had spotted for sale in the paper. You sat with me and listened to my very long list of why I didn't need one...and then gently guided me in the right direction without judgement of my stubbornness and shared words of wisdom which I will never forget. The way you handled your own diagnosis was truly inspiring (I don't like to use that word for illness but it is the only one that fits). Your honesty, dignity, determination and continued generosity in the face of such a devastating diagnosis taught me so much.

Rest in peace dear Andy, and thank you. You really were one in a million. x

My 'brother' has gone aloft. Andy was very much apart of our family dating back to his RO days in Ocean. The memories will always be with us - a true gentleman!
