In loving memory of Edward Golder 'Ed' who sadly passed away on 28th August 2021

David Batchelor wrote

I was grateful for Ed's support for many years when we worked together in John Laing Construction; and later in retirement I was delighted to be able to reconnect through my work with The John Laing Charitable Trust. He was a good colleague and will be sadly missed by so many of us from Laing.
The John Laing Charitable Trust will be making a donation in memory of Ed direct to Forest Holme Hospice Charity.

Over 53 years ago I had the privilege to meet Ed when we worked together as cashiers on a massive building site. Shortly after meeting we rented a property, “the cottage” where together with Steve, Des and a couple of other colleagues from the site we spent a couple of hectic, enjoyable and life changing years. This was the start of a lifelong friendship and over the years Ed introduced me to many of his numerous friends and always made me feel part of that group. He had the ability to reunite people after years of absence, I believe he was the glue, the gravity that held friendships together.
I have many interesting and funny memories of silly things and important things that we both experienced, too many to list here. If I could speak to him now I would thank Ed for being a great friend, someone I will obviously miss and never forget. Thanks Ed.

Ed will never be forgotten. He had a great sense of humour and was a real gent. He reminded me very recently that we never lost a game when partnered together and I will treasure this and his memory forever. He will be sorely missed.

Ed was a great companion on and off the golf course. Always competitive but supportive and good fun win or lose.
Off the course he was a good company and we had many happy hours chatting over a pint or two, putting the world to right!
His projects were legendary and I admired his conversion of storage rooms over a shop into two lovely flats.
A great friend who will be much missed.

Ed was a great companion on and off the golf course. When playing golf Ed was always competitive but also supportive and enjoyed the banter and camaraderie that goes with the game. Win or lose he was always good fun. Off the course he was great company and we had many happy hours chatting over a pint or two putting the world to right! His projects were legendary and I saw with admiration his conversion of storage rooms over a shop being turned into two quality flats
A really good friend who will be much missed.

I always enjoyed Ed’s company whether it was on the golf course or in the clubhouse picking through the ruins of our round, he was a real gent. I had tremendous admiration for the projects that Ed took on, he kept plodding on and the end results were brilliant, was was a clever guy. He was engaging, always had a ready smile and was a good listener too……we wil miss you Ed
