In loving memory of Raymond Palmer who sadly passed away on 11th September 2021
Ray was an extraordinary man truly loyal and committed to his family far and wide.
He started his working life as a Grenadier guard where he would joke about the pencil test as being the only joining requirement (for those who don't know it involves being able pass a pencil through one ear and out the other) . Being involved in an explosion ended, his service career.
Ray went on to travel the world in the merchant navy on a numbers of ships including the Queen Mary. He fondly recalled stories of ports he had visited which usually included a bar or two.
He finally ended up work on the cross channel ships where he met some lifelong friends, colleagues and Mitch and soon became husband any wife.
The last couple of years things became an increasing struggle for him as his health deteriorated and declined very quickly in the last couple of weeks. Although it is profoundly painful right now we can feel blessed that he is at peace and reunited with his loved ones.
By most he will be remembered for his dry sense of humour and incredible wit.
We will remember him for his warmth, compassion and generosity to all three of us and his grandchildren.
Ray supported us through some very difficult times and we will be forever thankful he was such a significant part of our lives.
Oakhaven Hospice cared for Ray for the last few weeks. The care and compassioned they gave him was nothing short of amazing, he felt at home and as such we are requesting the instead of flowers we would welcome any donations for them.
We would really like to hear some of your memories of him so please feel free to notes these
