Such sad news, John and my late father Norman always had good banter about being the oldest surviving Sayer. Sending all the love and condolences from Normans family

Another old school friend contacted me this morning with the sad news that John Sayer had passed away. John and I started at Keighley Boys’ Grammar School on the same day in September 1945 though we were not in the same form. Our closest contact in those days was when we played rugby together and he was no mean player. It was not until very much later that we re-established contact at the pub in goose Eye it was then that I learned that he and I were distantly related - our grandfathers were brothers!. Since that time we have kept in touch but not recently I’m afraid. Lockdown has kept me confined to East Anglia. As I said, it’s sad news, but not unexpected. My mother used to say on such occasions, ‘It comes to us all, if we live long enough’. And she was right!
My sympathy is extended to all John’’s family.

I am lost for words, known John most of my life, he helped me/ shouted at me/ cracked me, but was always there for for me. It’s a sad and strange feeling knowing that the big man has left us, he will be greatly missed by many people, thank you for everything you did for me and my family, sleep tight my friend. xxx
