In loving memory of Georgina Jessie Renshaw (Nina) who passed away peacefully at home on 29th July 2021.

She leaves behind her beloved husband Bas, son Richard, daughters Sheila and Sarah, grandchildren Sam, James and Richard and great grandson Scott, as well as her large extended family both in the UK and Australia.

Nina (mum) was clever, talented, creative and innovative, especially as a needlewoman and in the kitchen. She could produce the most wonderful delicious food and make the lightest pastry. She loved all kinds of crafts from quilting and patchwork to bobbin lacemaking and embroidery, from dressmaking and toy making to calligraphy and drawing and was always ready to give something new a go.

Nina was very much a ‘people’ person: loving, kind, considerate, always interested. She had such a warm heart and wonderful soul, but also had an enviable pragmatic approach to dealing with something, displaying oodles of common sense and practicality. She was very much a ‘go-to’ person for sensible advice.

Last year, pragmatic as ever, mum discussed her funeral with her family: the type of service, the place, the music, funeral attire, flowers and so forth, with some very specific requests. We have followed her wishes as closely as possible.

In mum’s own words regarding funeral attire, “I wouldn’t go so far as saying no black, but colourful would be lovely”. (In other words, feel free to do as you think fit.)

Flowers - she requested family flowers only. However, donations are a welcome alternative and mum was very specific in her choice of charities should anyone wish to donate in her memory. British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK were both very important and special to her. There are links to both those charities on this website and the family would like to thank you for your contributions.

If you are unable to attend the funeral service but would still like to “be there”, we are having a webcast which will be broadcast live, and which will then be available for 28 days. Please contact the family for details.

Thank you for taking the time to read this snippet of a biography and if you feel able to leave any messages or memories of Nina, that would be wonderful.

Last but not least ~ Don’t worry about a thing, ‘cos every little thing gonna be all right.

We have such lovely memories of Nina through our involvement in Brownies and guides; very special memories of unit holidays at Dudsbury, Lyme Regis (where we were dressed as pirates and Nina cooked for all of us as Capt.Birdseye) and at Ringwood. Wr are so fortunate to have known Nina.
Our love to all the family,
Kath, Miriam and Eloise

  • Thank you Kath, Miriam and Eloise, I remember Lyme Regis too - especially using the snooker table as a dining room table and all the Brownies having to fetch their pillows and bedding to sit on because the chairs were too low! I think the table was at their nose level!! Ha ha. Love to you all, from Sheila xx

Dear Nina,

So many happy memories from my childhood of tea at the Renshaw's in Potters Bar - of Nina's lovely voice and warm smile. I also remember trying not to spit out my hot tea when Bas made one of his really terrible puns!

And then later, visiting in Dorset, I was included on days out and one particular memory I have is of a lovely family picnic on the downs in Swanage, full of laughter.

Nina's skills with her hands, creating all kinds of crafts, garments and the fascinating lacemaking were just wonderful.

I am so sorry not to be there in person today but am sending all my love and fondest wishes.

Ann-Marie & David xxxx
