I first met Douglas in 2017 at the Exeter Chess Club when we were drawn to play in the first round of the club championship. Following that, we regularly met up to play chess and became good friends. A thoroughly nice gentleman. Rest in peace check mate.

Douglas, his sisters Beryl and Joan and niece Alison enjoying time together on Budleigh beach. Douglas was a great help to me when I was at University… sorting a work Placement in Austria and allowing me to stay with him when I started my first job

Douglas was a wonderful brother to my mother Beryl. He was so thoughtful and kind and they shared many memorable trips including a trip to Paris for Beryl’s birthday.

A good friend over many years. Happy memories at Twickenham on the terraces. I first met Doug in Cape Canaveral in 1973 - many exploits since then, but most memorable was our flight with the RAF in two seater Hawk jet aircraft from RAF Brawdy. A lot of water since then! Rest in Peace
I will be at the funeral (British Rail willing) but not the reception in Haslar

I served with Doug as his Navchief on HMS Resolution ( Port ) 1976 - 78. Always respecting our service ranks we became friends and have kept in touch until recently. Thankyou Doug for the memories.
