It is with the greatest sadness that the family of Peter Parkinson announces his passing on the 19th of February 2021, just a few months shy of his 80th birthday.

Peter passed away peacefully and will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Gina, his three children Sara, Simon and Ben and his five grandchildren, Chloe, Nathan, Josh, Mía and Beau.

After finishing university and following his love of geography he started work for the MOD in the Ordnance Survey department. This provided him with the opportunity to travel the world, including longer postings in Cyprus and the US. He shared his love of travel with his family and friends often taking them on many holidays far and wide.

Peter’s involvement in theatre started soon after arriving in Cyprus in 1972. He directed and performed in front of audiences of 2,000+ at the Curium ampitheatre, overlooking the sea. On his return to the UK, in the late 1970s he joined Group 64 in Putney and then in 1985 the Richmond Shakespeare Society, where he also wrote and published plays.

His love of sport, he passed on to his two sons, and subsequently to his grandchildren. I’m sure many of you will remember conversing with Peter about the latest results and current sporting events.

It came natural to Peter to give support and encouragement to others, helping them follow their passions. Much like he did with his wife Gina, where they could often be found enjoying the arts and also gardening together.

He was always a loyal friend and a loving family man. All of your messages confirm he was a warm, supportive and creative friend. Much admired for his dignity and courage in the face of illness, his humour, and the way he shared his enjoyment of acting and literature.

We're so proud of how you battled, yet kept such a positive attitude. We really miss you, but take heart in knowing that you are always watching over us. Love you dad....

I first met Peter on my first outing with RSS in December 2015 in the panto he largely wrote himself, The Adventures of Dick Whittington and His Cat. The show opened with half a dozen of us villagers singing and dancing a song about springtime, not hugely tunefully I seem to recall, but then on came Peter as Mrs Whittington and, with a straight, innocent, distraught face, enquired: “Has anyone seen my Dick?” The audience collapsed!
We’ll miss him.
