Doreen Gilbert (5 Jan 1940 - 10 Jul 2021)

In loving memory of Doreen Gilbert (Nee Fidler) who passed away peacefully on 10th July 2021 aged 81, at home with her family.

Beloved wife of Barry for 52 years. Loving Mum to Claire-Louise and Grandma to Amelia. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Doreen was born in South Africa and came to England when she was 19. She trained as a midwife in Scotland and returned to Southampton where she married and continued working as a midwife. After she had her daughter Doreen worked for the Wessex Fertility service in Southampton until retirement.

Doreen was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and lived with it for 10 years but, until recent years, it did not stop her from pursuing her hobby of gardening. When she was no longer able to tend to her own garden she joined Forget Me Nots Dementia club at Mayfield Nurseries and the lovely people there supported her to continue enjoying gardening.
